And that's what has concerned me. People talking about letting this thing go without managing the virus. My perception of what AZ, you and BDK have been saying, is heck with the virus, lets just get back to normal, thousands of death a day be damned. Gannon wants a list of rules that could compete with the obamacare documentation. I was throwing out the end of May, because the models have the death rate down to around 100 deaths per day. No one else has proposed an acceptable number of deaths per day to open things back up. States like ND, MT, SD, NE, WY could all probably be back to business as normal if they had the testing and track and trace systems setup. The Northeast not so much.
If that’s your perception of my take then you have some reading comprehension issues, Gil. I have always differentiated between the “at risk” groups and the “not at risk” groups as far as normalcy goes. I put out an easy to follow list of guidelines for a series of businesses to allow them to begin to reopen and restart the economy. NOTHING about that even approaches “normal”....But I do believe that, outside of a couple hotspots around the country, the vast majority COULD get back to normal with not much of an impact to those ever-so-valuable curves Klammy keeps whining about.
Your statement that if it was up to you, we would not have this mitigation for stay the fuck home, gave me that perception. I can see where some of the upper midwest states could possibly be somewhat normal at this time. That's including Montana, ND, SD, Wyoming, NE. and maybe some other Western states.

It’s either really honest about what we don’t know or perhaps the dumbest and most dangerous statement by a public official at least in my lifetime.
Maybe it's out there and I just don't see it, but do we have any really good breakdown, state-wise or nationally, of all of the demographics of who's getting sick, who needs additional care, and who's dying from Covid? The John's Hopkins site is pretty general (number of cases, number of deaths) and I know they added recently the number of hospitalized and the number of recovered, but it doesn't seem like we have good data showing how certain population groups (whether it be age or race or income) are doing. For such an all-encompassing dilemma, we seem to be lacking data. :coffee:

Hey kalmie, did you get the funds for your golf course through the Small Business loan portion of the bill? Just curious. Obviously the money is going somewhere.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/16/politics ... index.html

Also with that being said, this is another reason why government dysfunction is more than just Trump at this point - how does Congress now have this well in hand and being fixed right now? Have we even heard from Congress lately other than to bicker with Trump (Dems) or just stay quiet (GOP'ers)? I understand he's a major irritant, but there's still work to be done.

And with the additional 5M folks claiming unemployment, that's now up to 22M folks unemployed, or about 3x the number at the worst of the Great Recession in '08. Estimates are we'll be at 15% unemployment when the next figure comes out in April, a number we haven't been at since WWII. Getting to a point where states aren't able to supply the money through their unemployment systems. And if the lockdowns continue a few more weeks you'll start seeing other part of the economy shut down as well. There have to be answers and solutions coming soon. As far as I know, these aren't fear-mongering data points, they're reality.

In times such as these, style doesn't matter. If you're going to cut, just run #2 guard over your whole head, then line the bottom of the sideburns and if you're feeling super neat, have another human being do the same to your neck line in the back and buzz the outline of your ears.

Or just rock a joofro until America reopens.

Oh lord, do we need to quote you literally every article and research about this topic?

You'd literally need to close the country BEFORE anyone gets infected and once it's IN the country, no travel restriction is going to make it stop. We didn't shut down the country nor did we ban travel before it got in (which is expected and ok).

And btw, "closing" the country doesn't mean we stop travel with one nation or even one type of travel. It means CLOSING the country...as in travel dealing with leisure and all commerce. Exports, imports, business, etc. Otherwise, it's finding its way in.
Travel restrictions can keep additional cases from coming in..If you have a limited # of cases of a certain disease in your country, and you have a country that has a massive outbreak of the same disease, shutting off travel from that country will limit the # of new cases coming into your country. It will keep your cases from being higher than they otherwise would be. Its not going to stop the spread in your country, but slow it down. Duh.
Yup.

I don't know if there is one site that has all the states to that level of detail. Probably have to go to each state health department website.

Here is CA, we have about 40M people here:

Edit, I just looked up an interactive map of % of ICU beds being occupied by Chinese Flu patients. Only one county has more than 50% of its ICU beds used by them, and its near the Oregon border.

Watched an interview with the Baylor head of the Tropical Disease Dept at lunch. He suggest getting the antibody test out there asap, to see who has had COVID-19. He mentioned that possibly 10% of the US population has been infected and possibly immune. If is true about the immunity, testing for this would be very important. That would be over 30 Million people.

Iowa launched a dashboard this week to show much of that data.

https://idph.iowa.gov/emerging-health-i ... oronavirus

Child is 0-17
Adult is 18-40
Middle age is 41-60
Older Adult is 61-80
Elderly is 81+

Unfortunately they don't show a breakdown of the deaths by age category. A big chunk of our deaths and outbreak is elderly and nursing homes.

We might never have a vaccine. So in that case, she's saying they stay in lock down forever. What an idiot.

They also mentioned the states with less than 1000 cases, might be the first to open up. By that example, they could open up more if they went by county and did partial states. The UP of Michigan for example.

My last was 3/7. I should have gotten another the last day possible PA (3/20) or nearby DE (3/23), but didn't think about it until too late. About 10 weeks (mid May) would be my record. If I can't get one within a 1/2 hr (PA. DE, NJ), by late May, I'm going full head shave, which haven't done since the 90s.
