You're local lawn and garden store is going to sell a lot more than that. They're going to sell things you can't, or don't want to, order online. Ex you're not ordering large bags of potting soil, large tomato cages, giant planters online (I've got one the size of a small bathtub).

If food is essential, then lawn and garden stores, and sporting goods (fishing, hunting) are essential..
Allowing the big box to stay open and sell the above, and not the locals, is arbitrary, capricious, and patently unfair..

Don't hurt your arm on that stretch. Who the fuck relies on tomato plants for their sustenance? Are you freezing them to get you through the winter?

There's DOZENS of fruits and veggies than can be grown in gardens in the mid Atlantic climate. It doesn't take a big garden, either. 2 large hanger planters and 2 giant pots, 10 tomato plants, last year yielded close to 5,700 small cherry & grape tomatoes, and enough spinach for a couple doz salads. Yes, I did freeze close to a thousand.

I could only imagine what someone with even a 1/4 acre garden could do.

Edit: + I freeze a ton of fish, mostly caught on fishing trips with my brother or buddy down in FL.

A lot of people do that but I get your point. There are people, like me, that have a garden which provides a decent yield each season and allows us to can several jars of tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, peppers and more.

My in-laws are millionaires with an acre garden who either eat or can everything that comes out of it. They've got jars full of tomatoes,corn, squash, beans, etc... They freeze about 1/2 of the fish he catches in the river and could probably live for a good few months on that stockpile.

My FiL grew up dirt poor on a farm and that's exactly how he lived in the 50s-early 70s until he went into the military.
