FAU did have a recent study which shows how non-N95 masks do reduce droplet spreads from 12+ feet to 4 feet or so.

It's obviously not full-proof, but it certainly helps a bit.

For the good of society, just wear the mask for now.

Everyone at UPenn hospital is still wearing placebos this morning as I wait for my 6-week chemo port flush.

It's funny to see all these doctors and nurses practicing junk science. :coffee:

Well, technically, I think they have to be wearing them - governor's orders at this point in PA. I know some businesses, especially smaller ones, may be eschewing it (I went into a fencing store yesterday to get some spare rails - I was wearing a mask but the two folks working there weren't wearing masks), but the order from the governor is pretty clear that any place of business that is open at this point has to require masks of anyone on the premises. But I'm glad they were wearing them, certainly was making people feel better about it.

I have no problem wearing the masks for the perception of it, and I fully support opening up businesses with that restriction (everyone has to wear a mask) in place. But I'm not going to pretend it does anything. I'm sure you can find a study that says that, but did the study then evaluate how people handle and store non-N95 masks? Heck, even an N95 mask is ineffective if it doesn't fit perfectly (and any facial hair at the point of contact for the seal negates a perfect fit) and they are not effective if you don't handle and store them properly. And it gets potentially more dangerous if a person assumes they are protected (false security) wearing one and then proceeds to touch things or the outside of the mask and touches other things after that. But hey, I'm all up for the wearing them as a symbol of uniting for the common good - even as a symbol I think it's a good idea.

Did any have beards? :D

And I would be willing to bet their masks have proper fitment. :thumb:

Read a funny article that compared different materials on their pass through rate and my blue shop towels performed better than most of the homemade masks.

No N95's in sight. We're all wearing these (and bathing in sanitizer):

Based on what my sister-in-law said (she is a RN) those mask types are more so to provide protection from outside influences and even then only large droplets. Where that is true or not, I haven't had the chance to verify it.

If I have the need to go into a place that requires one, I am putting my cowboy hat on, pulling my bandana over my nose and mouth, putting my duster and cowboy boots on and walking in. May look like an old time bank robber but I might as well have some fun. I will just leave the Henry scatter gun at home.....

The only time I wear it in the car is if I have multiple close stops - it is just easier to leave it on for those - i.e gas station then grocery store.

It's all about common sense, which seems to be in short supply nowadays. When you're in close proximity to others, you drive reasonably on public roads and wear a mask during a pandemic.

Common sense has always been in short supply. Some people don't have any "sense" much less "common sense" today.

Like the idiot at the 1:50 minute mark in this video below.
