They’re all showing the same thing. This thing (that’s for you, klammy) is WAAAAAAAY more prevalent than first thought...and been here longer and spread far wider than first thought. Attempts to “contain” it are essentially like pissing in the wind. So we’d better learn to live with it, and learn fast.

Not if it’s as prevalent as the studies are showing....that cat is out of the bag, so to speak....and there’ll be an inevitable 2nd & 3rd wave, so define “contained”....kalm wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 10:13 amUmmmm...it’s literally being contained right now.AZGrizFan wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 9:21 am 33 of 215 pregnant women in one hospital (and no, they didn’t get it AT the hospital)

If only there were some sort of a happy medium where you could slow the spread, observe locations that closed late and reopened quickly, learn more about the true threat, and then smartly loosen restrictions based on knowledge and armed with better therapeutic counter measures.SDHornet wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 9:50 amNo, no we can't "stop" the spread. How the narrative moved from "slow the spread/bend the curve" to outright "stopping" the spread is complete nonsense.

Plus think about how much $$ people are saving on booze (not you but people in general, especially millenials). Buying alcohol at the c-store, grocery store, liquor store, and drinking at home is A LOT less cheaper than bar tabs and the booze portion of restaurant tabs.

The takeaway is the shittiness of our healthcare system compared to the one that supports our excuse for leaders.

What is even more clear is that the US has 4% of the world's population and 25% of the world's deaths from this virus. Our healthcare system has been exposed for the ripoff it is.

Hence, my point earlier that we take risks every single day. Just by leaving the house. Drive home from a bar, after a couple rounds, in a snowstorm and your odds go from 1/5000 to about 10-20x that. Yet we’ve all done it. We're past that. Mostly because of Dithering Donald did doodly with the time he had to prepare, and his having already dismantled what more forward thinking Presidents had done to prepare for exactly this event.

Knowing that if I didn't give out the cookies, that more than 2 people would either die from starvation or a variety of other factors, I'm giving out all 10,000 cookies.Gil Dobie wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 9:17 amIt's apples and oranges. Gil, we do that shit every. Single. Day.
Every time you leave your house, there’s risk involved. Every time you get in an elevator. Every time you get fast food. Every time you go into a public place. Every time you plug something in. EVERYTHING involves an element of risk. If 2 of 100 cookies are poisoned, that’s one thing. If 2 of 10,000 are poisoned, I’m eating cookies all day long.
So if you had 10,000 cookies, and had 10,000 people to give them to, would you give them away, knowing 2 people would die?

There was a chance at containment had China and WHO not lied about this. Even then it was probably here before this thing every hit the news early this year.
Given that they lied until mid January about this, there was no hope in hell in containing it.
This is 100% on China.

By taking measures that show a lack of compassion for WAY more people by creating ballpark 500 lost jobs for every death, and all that will come with it that we've talked about ad nauseam on here (increase in poverty, malnutrition, lack of health care, substance abuse and addiction, crime, depression, despair, suicide, etc, etc)Gil Dobie wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 9:21 amIt's not fear porn, it's actual compassion for our fellow human beings, to reduce the spread to people that are danger.AZGrizFan wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 9:06 am
Jon, there are all kinds of links out there, even some from your favorite news sources, that validate the studies (growing in number) that ALL show the same thing: this thing is much more prevalent than originally thought.....50-80x more prevalent. Which makes it 50-80x LESS deadly.
But you’d rather hang YOUR hat on one horribly flawed model that pedals fear porn because it reinforces what YOU want to hear.
