Re: Coronavirus COVID-19
More good stuff from Andy Slavitt.
“There are is a major fallacy here. There is no plan by Chris Christie or otherwise to bring the economy back without addressing our public health crisis. 9/
The reason is he can’t. Without a credible plan to address the public health crisis, tell me how consumers start buying cars, small businesses sign leases & employers start hiring?
They don’t say. They just complain about the “other” position.10/
This may build into a big food fight to preoccupy & entertain us with something besides dealing with the actual virus. But I don’t need to be invited to debate opportunities on the topic.11/
There is, however, a plan to slowly steadily bring the economy back, but by solving the public health crisis. It was put forward by...the Trump White House all of 3 weeks ago. It had gates & stages & hinged conditions on the ground. But none of them have been met. 12/
Rather than wait, Trump grew impatient. He wants life to go back to the way it was before the pandemic. He wants the economy growing.
I don’t know how to explain it to him but let me try.13/
All this takes work.
He says he disbanded the Task Force midstream because at some point we have to go back to normal. Before the job is done. 15/
Trump acts like keeping Americans safe is a bridge too far. 16/
This is not easy. But it’s not impossible either. Other countries are managing keep people safe & open their economies. (If you think this is because of country size or testing see the 2 tweets that follow)17/“

He combines tweets into an article like some others do (agree it’s not the greatest format). It’s better if you open the link.

Ill start with the lowest hanging fruit here...
What countries have already reopened their economies??
I live in a country that was the first one to have CV outside of China. Because we are a hybrid military/monarchical dictatorship, the country was able to clamp down quickly. To this day, we have less than 3000 total cases and less than 60 deaths.
We are still under a heavier lockdown than you wilting petunias in the US are experiencing
If Thailand isnt a poster child for opening back up ... under contemporary logic, then who is?
Who has opened up, klam?

“Opening back up” is a poor phrase to use. The idiots think it means back to normal (whatever that was). Phased reopening of industries is what’s happening, even in the Socialist Republic of WA. My golf course was closed a week ago. I couldn’t go fishing. Now fir the first time, you can serve take out mixed cocktails and beers with a Class H restaurant license. Wooo Whoo! I'm sure this will work out fine. The Los Angeles city council voted on Wednesday to identify any hotels refusing to house the homeless as part of Project Roomkey, to investigate if any of those hotels have gotten tax breaks from the city in the past, and suggested these hotels may need to be “commandeered”.
And yes, I know this is not the same dummy.

HIs first two tweets were similar to what I've been posting about but (like Ganny) I'm not opposed to a healthcare solution and believe everyone should have access to the internet. I just don't want to copy the healthcare systems they have in Canada or Britain. The internet has become a utility that is used and needed for education, healthcare, etc. Everyone should have access to it.
Kalm is right that we're closer on this than most realize. He's more cautious than I am and I want more urgency on putting numbers on the negative impacts of the restrictions. That should have been done a month ago.

There is some cool and amazing shit happening not only on the medical front but commerce and education related tech as well. I spend WAY too much time on it. Let’s just say I have way too may friends and it’s a very eclectic mix politically. I’ve never unfriended someone but I’m considering it now. From my view by far the most emotionally irrational and uniformed vages are my conservative friends. The liberal friends are more measured and studious...”here’s some good information...this sucks, but we’ll get through it and come out smarter in the end” type of stuff.
