on last estimate something like 75 million Americans were morbidly obese

It's ok - Obesity is one of the leading causes of Covid-co-mortality, and according to the GOP, they are going to die soon anyways, so who cares if they die a bit sooner from Covid-19.

Solid question. I see them a little differently because the majority are functional and can carry on day to day without assistance. They understand social cues and if had to, could "conform" to normal.

Can't speak for Asperger's, but as far as Autism, the 10% that can hold a job and function in society do so because they have been trained. Not saying they know, but can follow a script. When A happens, I am suppose to do B.

But in regards to your question, I do see them on a gender spectrum. I do question the pushing of normalcy when the suicide rate is so high.

With that being said, I worked with a guy (Michael), who became Colleen and didn't skip a beat. Colleen obviously was on the more stable end and we have been friends since I joined the company.

In many ways, no. However, anyone who says there aren't at least some trans folks who choose the lifestyle are lying or kidding themselves. I've never heard of a person choosing Asperger. So in that way they're different.

There are so many social deviants (using that clinically) in our society and many of them have become not only more accepted, but protected. That's a good thing for a majority of them. Where I struggle is that EVERYONE finds some groups acceptable or "normal" but chastises people for finding other groups acceptable or normal. I'm no exception. It's one of the reason why I changed my stance on capital punishment. I realized I thankfully have zero experience with growing up in a terrible situation or with a mental condition.

Once you have children, I think your outlook on many things change.

I'm slowly coming around to being against capital punishment.

This is anecdotal of course however, my friend Rhett came out the closet about 8 yrs ago and he came out as trans a few years back. He is more comfortable dressing up as a woman, going through life as a woman and was starting the process of gender reassignment. He didn't chose to be gay or feel like he is more woman than man.

However, he has since decided that life would be easier if he didn't dress like a woman and get the surgery. He lives in Alabama and it's already difficult being a gay man in the south. He's made the choice to stick with being a man even though he feels it's unnatural to him. If you ask him - he will tell you that he would never in a million years CHOOSE to be gay or trans gendered. Its awful for him. It's cost a marriage (which he shouldn't have been in the first place). He hates himself some days and has contemplated suicide. Luckily he knows that there are a few friends that will listen and he knows he isn't a bother when he sends me a text saying he needs to talk. His Southern Baptist family have surprisingly accepted him, for the most part. But he would rather be a heterosexual than anything else.

:twocents:
Spoiler: show
In a completely different vein - the dude is probably the best salesman I know. I don't know how he was able to get people in the bible belt to buy flooring from a woman who is so obviously a 6'2" former wide right. He was last in and last out at his most recent job (company went under) and he just got hired by another company in Florida. I swear - he could sell BDK a membership to the Democratic Party.
Turns out I might be a little gay. 89Hen 11/7/17

There hasn’t been a thing called Asperger for about 7 years...it is usually used by people who don’t want their children associated with Autism...
Asperger syndrome, or Asperger’s, is a previously used diagnosis on the autism spectrum. In 2013, it became part of one umbrella diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5 (DSM-5).

Isn't that what happened to people who had Down's Syndrome.

It seems like one day we woke and nobody had downs anymore. What does changing the name do for those people?

Down’s Syndrome used to be called Mongolism because of the epicanthal fold that is a physical characteristic in the eyes of people with Down’s. It made them
look Asian, or “Mongolian”.

Changing the name removed what was an offensive term from multiple angles.

Downs is just a layman's term for Trisomy 21. There are people who still use it.

I'm just wondering out loud if it's cool to ridicule and belittle Downs kids and Autistic kids..?
Because it seems perfectly okay to ridicule and belittle transgender kids

I'm fascinated by where exactly "The Line" is

we've got a guy in seattlegrizs shoes who finds it perfectly okay to belittle transgender kids
ponder that for a moment - I'm struggling to wrap my head around that disconnect

They're different. The autism advocacy organizations have done a great job of raising awareness and funds for research. Downs/Trisomy is still happening but doesn't get nearly as much attention.
