Can anyone actually discriminate against gender these days? Impossible to tell if somebody adheres to a particular gender.dbackjon wrote: ↑Fri May 22, 2020 9:28 amThere is a huge difference between requiring a mask vs discrimination based on race/sexual orientation/gender.
You can put on a mask, and take it off. No harm, no foul. You can't change your gender/race/sexual orientation. This are actually pretty insulting comparisons. And of course it is easy for straight, white males that have never been discriminated against to pontificate about discrimination.

Are you kidding? Straight white males — especially older ones— are regularly discriminated against by the Left.dbackjon wrote: ↑Fri May 22, 2020 9:28 amThere is a huge difference between requiring a mask vs discrimination based on race/sexual orientation/gender.

I once applied for a job with an organization where the leadership were all minorities and the majority of the employees were African-American and Latinos made up the 2nd highest number. I didn't see a single white employee while I was in their office. I could sense during the interview process that the leadership was uncomfortable with me. I don't know for sure but it is possible that I was discriminated against.

FWIW, had my son checked the box for Hispanic (he's more Hispanic than Warren is Native American) he would have gotten in to every school to which he applied and probably had most of his tuition covered.

I think the playing field has leveled somewhat. I might have started on 1st base because of advantages that my parents and grandparents enjoyed but those advantages were less of a factor for me in my career and are/will be even less so for my kids. My first job out of college was with a Fortune 500 company where I did reasonably well but they wanted to improve their management diversity so they sought out and promoted minorities and females who had achieved less than me. I'm not saying this to b!tch, I understand that they were trying to make up for the past when the playing field wasn't level and someone had to pay the price. My two sons did well in high school and got into good colleges with good financial aid packages but if they were female and/or minority they would have gotten into even better colleges and gotten even better financial aid packages.Chizzang wrote: ↑Fri May 22, 2020 11:22 amum... no sirUNI88 wrote: ↑Fri May 22, 2020 11:16 am

And you know what? I don’t care.
“I don’t care” is simultaneously the best and worst thing you can to say people who are emotionally passionate about a subject and how they would prefer society deals with it.
Try it on for size...
“America is a Christian nation!” I don’t care.
“I’m gay!” I don’t care
“Lincoln was a tyrant!” I don’t care.
“I’m ________race!” I don’t care.
“Artificial turf should be green!” I don’t care.
I had a meeting with married gay woman over some legal issues awhile back. At one point she semi-apologetically pointed out her sexual orientation and started down the ‘associating with her might hurt my reputation road. I cut her off and said “I don’t care”
She said “thank you for that.”

So the intent of the Civil Rights Act is to permit "activists" to bring spurious (and expensive) lawsuits against business owners who are doing nothing more than exercising their constitutionally guaranteed freedom of religion? Is it really the government's prerogative to penalize the free exercise of religion after guaranteeing the protection of the free exercise of religion in the Constitution?Skjellyfetti wrote: ↑Fri May 22, 2020 8:07 am I don't disagree on the gay wedding cakes.
Discrimination by sexual orientation is legal because it wasn't included in the Civil Rights Act. I think it should be updated, but it's not.

You’re confusing sociocultural definitions with parts. Unless transsexuals and not to mention sex changes and hormone therapies don’t exist, you’re wrong on both the biological and identity rights part. Gender is factually fluid unless you want to look under skirts and search for chromosomes. Suck it!
Again. I don’t care.

Is gender a human construct or is gender identity a human construct? I'm pretty sure the vast majority of people are born biologically male or female. Someone's gender doesn't change if I "look under skirts and search for chromosomes." Their gender identity "can in fact be fluid" and I don't have a problem with that if it helps them feel right about themselves. People should feel comfortable being themselves.kalm wrote: ↑Fri May 22, 2020 1:27 pmPretty sure gender is (at least mostly) a human construct and it I think it’s safe to acknowledge it can in fact be fluid.

And by cultural, you mean what we accept as the truth as a culture. A person with a penis is not female nor a woman. That is culturally true.
FTR, I don't care what somebody calls themselves. It's only when we are forced to ignore cultural norms that it becomes a problem. It really is no difference than me wanting to be called a unicorn.
