Heroes

Post by 89Hen »

Has this word lost all meaning these days? I saw a sign in front of the USPS calling the mail carriers "heroes". :suspicious:

I have no problem thanking folks who are still working, but is it just dumb to be calling anyone and everyone hero? These signs are popping up everywhere.

"Heroes" lost its true meaning years ago. Hell, any "essential" workers were deemed heroes about 2 weeks into the shutdowns.

Yes, you are not a hero because you do your job.

Unless you work for Jimmy John's, then you are an essential worker and a hero.

Yes. We've discussed this before. The word has lost all meaning and importance. Heroes now means anyone that does their job during a difficult time.

Hero - Anyone that exemplifies extraordinary courage in the face of danger.

Not a hero - Someone doing a job they trained and applied for.

I am not a big fan of Subway probably because I ate there everyday for 2 weeks due to the fact that it was the only place to eat near our job site (even then it was a 5 mile drive). And I like the Bootlegger from Jimmy John's so sue me. :D

I've only eaten at one on the list and that's only because it's in my work center. I avoid chain sub shops at all costs.

Jersey Mikes is #1 by a long shot.

I've never had a Firehouse. Are there Schlotzsky's still around somewhere? I've never been a fan of paying for a cold meat sandwich that I felt like I could make it at home so I give a slight edge to Subway over JJs.

If you're ever in Cedar Falls, stop by Sub City. Man that started it moved to Iowa from New Jersey and opened it up while I was in school. They slice the meat/cheese fresh and build the sub while you watch. It was years after I graduated before I could even think about eating at a Subway.

My go to's at Jersey Mike's are the Original Italian or the Big Kahuna.

JJ's are served at work a bunch due to their delivery options, so 95% of the time I am eating them for free.

I will definitely swing by there next time I am down in the area. :thumb:
