Wyoming Football Sets Season-Ticket Record, Texas Game Presented By BP, Will Be a Sellout
UW fans' overwhelming response to the 2009 Wyoming Football Season results in new season-ticket record and will result in a sellout for the Texas game.
What are the odds of Wyo beating Texas if they lose to Weber the week before?

I like the odds better of them beating Weber, then losing to Texas.weberwildcat wrote:http://www.wyomingathletics.com/sports/ ... 09aaa.html

Weber doesnt need bad wheather to beat the Grizzlies, They just need to play a good game and they will win.

^this is true, Let me remind all you Weber fans, just because Wyoming is a bad FBS team... doesnt mean that you can simply walk into that stadium and pull out a win. They have a new coach and from what I've read, he is doing alot of good things.kemajic wrote: You've already had your win for the decade, which is your quota against the Griz.
It will be close at halftime but the Cowboys are going to run away with it in the 3rd quarter.

So your telling me that just because my favorite team is Weber State that I dont even have the right to even hope.
NDSU wasnt half the team Weber was last year (No offense Bison fans) and Wyoming had to come from behind to win that game AT HOME. Now a better more talented FCS team enters War Memorial Stadium this year, wyoming with a new head coach and an entirely DIFFERENT system that they need to learn quickly, and a sellout game vs Texas the week after, and a chance of over-looking Weber. Weber has a better chance than everyone thinks.
Now lets say UM had Wyoming on thier schedule this year,(heaven forbid) or Eastern Washington, you cant tell me that the fans from those schools wouldnt think thier team had a chance, they would be doing exactly what us WILDCAT fans are doing and thats believing Thier teams can do it. But now a handful of Grizzly fans and the only Eastern Wash fan on this board are telling us just because our team is Weber we have no chance?
Jealous?

Wyo still won. So ill tell you what the App fans told me: don't talk shit when you (or the team in question...NDSU) lose.Wildcat Ryan wrote:.... Wyoming had to come from behind to win that game....
The point is, you can hope and do what you want, but you Weber fans tend to get beside yourselves with confidence. Having said that, I hope Weber does win, it would make the Big Sky look good as well as the FCS.

We are just being optimistic, Weber has a very very very talented team coming back this year, I have never felt this away about Weber playing a FBS school than right now, Weber has a chance, its not that we are overconfident, we are just optimistic.

This is Weber State's chance.
It's a chance to show how the Wildcats measure up against Division I teams. It's a chance to show fans in Utah how well they can play against Mountain West Conference opponents. It's a chance to show that last year was no fluke -- and that the 'Cats will be serious Football Championship Subdivision contenders in 2009.
Those two nonconference games against Wyoming and Colorado State, on back-to-back weekends, won't have much of an impact on the Wildcats' quest for an FCS championship -- but they will pay dividends in toughening Weber State up for a title run.
"It's one of the toughest schedules in I-AA," Weber State coach Ron McBride said. "They're very important games. I think it's good to see how competitive we're going to be. They should be interesting."
And relatively lucrative. The Wildcats will take home a combined $420,00 for playing on the road at Laramie, Wyo., and Fort Collins, Colo.
However, these games do not come without risk. They're the kind of nonconference encounters that could haunt the Wildcats if they lose badly and wind up with a bunch of injuries. That could quickly kill the team's confidence and prevent Weber State from building on what it accomplished last year -- winning a share of the Big Sky Conference championship and advancing to the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs.
That's why players have worked so hard during the summer, especially defensive captain Kevin
Advertisement
Linehan, who was selected to the preseason all-Big Sky Conference team. He heads into fall camp, which starts Friday, after an impressive summer. McBride said he was "blown away" with what Linehan has accomplished this offseason.
Then there is quarterback Cameron Higgins, who earned all-Big Sky honors last year after throwing for 4,460 yards and 36 touchdowns. This could be a dangerous team -- on both sides of the ball.
"A lot of people know these Mountain West teams, and if we show what we can do, we can earn a lot of respect with fans and local Utah residents," Linehan said. "We just want to get the experience early. These games will help us continue on in conference games."
What makes the back-to-back away games even more daunting is that both trips will be by bus. On the weekend of Sept. 5, the Wildcats will take an 11-hour round trip to Laramie and they'll return to the road the next week for a 13-hour drive to Fort Collins to take on Colorado State.
"We look for competition and with these teams, it will give us some positive exposure in the Intermountain region," Weber State athletic director Jerry Graybeal said. "But in hindsight, it is like we're coming off a great season and now we're starting on the road, and it seems like we're handcuffing the team. But the kids, they look forward to playing up."

From GoWyoGo.com fans board:
Re: Weber State article............ Reply
Maybe I am over confident, but I see Weber as a tune-up game and nothing more. Defense and an improved passing game should make for a relaxing second half.
Re: Weber State article............ Reply
I see this as being a close game for a couple of reasons:
1. Weber State will have a pretty fair team. They return the same good system, same good coach, and have several veteran players from a good team that will be ready to hit the ground running....more so than the Pokes in terms of a system and a coaching / player mechanism that has been in place.
2. Wyoming will really be getting their feet under them and I hope they can use this game to really make some strides in installing and learning the new system as well as getting some good player / position evaluation.
3. I don't see the Pokes showing everything they are capable in this game partly because both the coach and team will still be learning and partly because of the opponent the following the week.
Re: Weber State article............ Reply
Triple WY, I disagree with you about our staff showing Texas our offense. It is not like Texas has not seen and played against Missouri. I feel that Texas will have a pretty good idea what our offense is all about. Dismal did that against Montana one year and made the game a lot closer than it had to be. He basically ran the ball for most of the game because he did not want to show our offense to our next opponent. We just need to run our offense and know that we can execute the plays. If the players learn how to execute the plays, then it will give them confidence to know that they have already achieved it.
I do know that some of our administration has very little respect for McBride as a head coach. They knew that he had good talent at Utah when he was there and had trouble getting his teams to play at their talent level. That was quite a few years back, but I know they felt that way then. I personally don't have a clue as to what the score will be as I don't even know who our qb will be for sure. But if our new coach is worth a hoot, we should win by three td's if our defense plays at a decent level. And I think that they will be a strong unit. I am sure the game will be a little sloppy at times, the first game usually is. Just my opinion.
Re: Weber State article............ Reply
Good point twisted. I too feel that the most important part of this opener will be to run the offense and execute a game speed. I feel the tune up will be needed and I agree it will look sloppy at times. This is where all the time in the off season pays off. Every game is for all the chips and I don't expect this one to be any different.
I hope the defense will be strong as ever, and if they are I think we can hold Weber State to 10 points or less. Hopefully about 9 giving them feild goals and holding tight in the red zone.
I also hope and believe that the offense is going to show up with their game faces on. I feel coach Christensen had a warrior like attitude and there will be no mercy. The opener is a chance for Coach to make a statement to Pokenation and I feel that his statement will mirror his own saying, "It's a whole new rodeo."
I look for some fireworks 30 days from now and expect to see some positives. Weber state may be a good team in the big sky but we can't forget that that is the big sky and this is the MoWest.
Personally I would be more scared of a team like Idaho, who used to be big sky but proved their ability to compete at this level. We didn't have much trouble with Utah State, why would we have trouble with Weber State?
I definately see the glass half full, I don't know if I can garruntee any other victories following the Weber State game but it would be a crying shame to lose to these guys.

It doesn't ever really matter whom plays whom. If you forget to get ready for any team, you will get hit in the mouth. Ask Michigan if they learned anything about that...or Tennessee last year...or anyone in the SEC that has had to face our team.
On every Saturday this season, two teams will suit the same amount of players, wear the same equipment, and play on the same field. Wyoming is used to being the underdog upset team, I sure hope that Weber State doesn't come in and upset us because all we can think about is Texas.
Although all I can think about is beating Texas too.....how can you not? That would be a great day for the brown and gold. Hell just a competitive game would be bad butt!

Go Cal!
Actually I pull for any Sky team to beat an FBS.
Usually I do to, unless someone else is cheering against the Wildcats vs FBS, GO CAL GOLDEN BEARS.

I want Cal to win too! Go Pac 10 baby! j/k
Normally I dont hate on people or different teams in the SKY, but, reading your posts over the last 8 months, & watchin Eastern Washington University being placed in the 'average' category, makes me want to see EWU rise to the top & see Web-er state fall to the bottom.

And whats different with what you are saying that we "apparently" are, you get on our case and call us cocky when we say Weber has a shot at being BSC champs, but all you ever say is how good Eastern Washington is going to be this year, and they are going to win the Big Sky Conference. and we are cocky? not to mention, you get all over TBird just because he thinks his Thunderbirds will be better than last year. where is the difference?
You are a two-faced hypocrite.

Listen guy, I dont have a problem with what you & TBird post on the site. However, when I read SOME of what you guys post, it makes me want to see Weber tied for 8th place in the SKY, & suu in dead last in the GWest, like they always are.Wildcat Ryan wrote: And whats different with what you are saying that we "apparently" are, you get on our case and call us cocky when we say Weber has a shot at being BSC champs, but all you ever say is how good Eastern Washington is going to be this year, and they are going to win the Big Sky Conference. and we are cocky? not to mention, you get all over TBird just because he thinks his Thunderbirds will be better than last year. where is the difference?

Obzerver wrote:Wildcat Ryan, you said "Now lets say UM had Wyoming on thier schedule this year,(heaven forbid) or Eastern Washington, you cant tell me that the fans from those schools wouldnt think thier team had a chance, they would be doing exactly what us WILDCAT fans are doing and thats believing Thier teams can do it. But now a handful of Grizzly fans and the only Eastern Wash fan on this board are telling us just because our team is Weber we have no chance? " Now why you hatin on the EWU fan that is our representative(elected by thousands of Eagle fans to represent us)? Didn't even see where he said anything on this thread...now you've probably scared him off.
Stick around Observer... we need some more Eagle posters.
Right now with me and BF, it's like Good Cop ~ Bad Cop but on an FCS forum.

Go Weber State (ONLY against the Pokes)!
and GO Eagles! Maybe Cal will treat us like an NFL preseason game and rest Jahvid Best. If he sits or gets hurt, we might have a chance!
