Former VaTech Recruit Choses JMU

Post by JMU DJ »

HARRISONBURG - Former Amherst County High School star quarterback Peter Rose - whose scholarship offer from Virginia Tech was withdrawn after a drug arrest in May 2008 - will play football for James Madison this year, he said Tuesday.

.....

Rose led Amherst to back-to-back Group AA, Division 4 titles.

He said it's unclear what position he'll play for JMU.

"I think they'll just run me through a bunch of positions, just see which ones I fit into best," the 5-foot-11, 190-pound Rose said.

Rose said he expects to be eligible to compete right away.

"From my grades and everything from my senior year, everything was clear," Rose said. "I should be pretty ready to go."

Three Star recruit according to rivals who can play on both sides of the ball. Also made the top 30 Virginia recruits of 2008. He should make an immediate impact on the starting line up whether its offensively of defensively.

What kinda drugs? If it's pot, big deal. If it's meth, you might have a little problem on your hands.

Pot
In the videotape, Rose can be seen selling a quarter bag of marijuana to an undercover officer posing as an Amherst County high school student.

Rose pleaded guilty to dealing marijuana on the above dates.
http://www.wsls.com/sls/news/local/lync ... ges/25495/
Rose was found guilty in a trial earlier this year of two felony charges of selling drugs within 1,000 feet of a school and two misdemeanor charges of selling marijuana, but he ended up, after sentencing, with only misdemeanor convictions and a 30-day sentence.

At Rose's sentencing, Judge Michael Gamble said he would dismiss a remaining felony drug charge as long as he completes 100 hours of community service, undergoes a substance abuse assessment and any required treatment, remains on good behavior and passes any drug tests.

.......

"A lot of people turned their backs on me. A lot of people just don't even deal with you anymore," said Rose, who accounted for 41 touchdowns his senior season at Amherst en route to winning Group AA player of the year honors. "It pretty much makes you a stronger person. It took me from a young man to a grown man, I would say.

He also received an offer from Liberty... but that's also only 10 minutes up the road from Amherst. Either way, he appears to have chosen JMU so that he could come play football with his brother and play for a "FCS Title Contender."

In 07'/08' Rose had offers from VT, UVA, Ga Tech, Syracuse, Marshall, Ohio, Navy:

The 3rd brother, Anthony, might be the best one of them all. With the other 2 brothers already there, there's a chance JMU will get him over BCS schools:

GreatApeState:

JMU is far from Thug U. The kid sold a dime bag of low grade weed, a crime yes, a sin against humanity no. C'mon, weed is nearly legal in some states, cops turn their heads unless the amount is huge. Rose will be given zero room to act like an 18 year old at JMU and he knows it. The only reason VT yanked his scholarship is VT does have a rep as Thug U and they can't afford more thug PR, in fact, I expect VT made damn sure ESPN announced they yanked the scholarship to help reverse their thug-karma, "look what we did, we are sainty VT"---whatever...this VT loss is JMU's gain.

There are kids at every high school, that had they been busted for the same thing, the story never makes the paper...we all know that is true.

Of course we have. :| There have been a few guys who have managed to find themselves off the team for violating rules, committing crimes, etc.

However, Moore has never brought in a player with an arrest record prior to enrolling at ASU. That's pretty much the difference right there. I'm not going to pile on (looks like that's happening well enough elsewhere).

Rose sold drugs to a undercover police officier at a school on two different occasions a month apart. It would appear he was in the business. The second time he suggested to the undercover police officer that he would give it to her for sex if she did not have any money, a kind gesture. He was also savy enough about what he was doing to suggest they leave the school grounds for the actual transaction. In court he pleaded poverty and the need to keep up with his friends. The judge seeing a great athlete, gave him a break on two felony accounts. The other kids arrested did not get this break. All his you can get from the newspaper accounts.

The folks I know in Amherst say he was/is a thug. He came from a poor family but drove a nice car, had nice clothes etc., they think they know how he got the money. Every FBS school in the nation dropped him. Glad JMU is so "generous" to give him a second chance. I am sure his athletic ability had nothing to do with it. Perhaps you could also offer Michael VicK a job in your ethics department. Best of luck, I think you will need it.

Says the pot calling the kettle black... Oh no! We have a thug player on our team! Can you name me one team that hasn't had a player of questionable demeanor?

... So what? We gave a guy a second chance... he fucks up, he'll be gone in a heart beat just like Tron Martinez and Desmond Williams... two upstanding ODU football players :thumb:

Good luck to you too! You are part of my master plan for the CAA to garner all of the FCS playoff spots.

Sorry to bust your bubble but ODU withdrew Tron Martinez's scholarship the day after he was arrested. ODU did not wait until after he was convicted of a double felony. BTW, he still has not been tried, but ODU still dropped him. ODU also got a lot of praise for its prompt action. As to Desmond Williams check the Virginian-Pilot, August 4, the charges against Desmond Williams were dropped. These are the examples you can come up with to state ODU is equal to JMU welcoming a double convicted felon? Sad. JMU was and I hope is a great school but I think this is a bad decision no matter how good Rose, or his little brother are as a football players. Time will tell.

He plead guilty and the judge dropped the two felony charges. He was sentenced on the misdemeanor charges. Virginia is a pretty lenient state on marijuana possession and dealing for first time offenders, which is why he possibly got off so easy. I was using Martinez as an example of what would happen if Rose messes up once he's at JMU, so you really didn't burst my bubble, sorry. I'm sure if he is even accepted by the university, he will be on a very short leash ...Don't worry, JMU handles their business when it comes to players who get out of hand... but like I said, there's a problem with giving someone a second chance? If ODU had more of a football history I could find you another example... perhaps an alcoholic Football director or something like that.
