Eastern Reserves X amount of seats for Montana fans, idiot. The game is sold out for weeks, MANY OF EWU STUDENTS CANT EVEN GET IN, I had to give my girlfriend & her family my PLAYER TICKETS unless they wouldnt have even got in. BTW BOTH my roommates had to stay home and watch it on tv, bc they couldnt get in.

So lets cut the B.S. about Montana having *Almost as many fans in attendance* bc the REALITY is, Eastern reserves a certain amount of tix for UM....either bc lots of Montana fans travel with the team, or bc its a rivalry game.. or both! If you dont believe it, ask my boy Dave Cook- EWU Sports Information Director

ODU is adding seats in the corner of one end zone to allow a few more fans in after turning away over 1,000 season ticket orders. The hope is to push attendance for the first season to a little over 20,000 per game. Go to the ODU website to check out the stadium, it is looking pretty good. Less than a month to go!!!

luvftballnva wrote: To those folks that keep saying wait until you start losing. Wrong! Here are some important facts for you. This area ("757" to you sports fans) might have a half a dozen local high schools draw 10,000 plus on any given Friday night. Then we have another 30 high schools playing, also drawing crowds in the thousands.
High school football has tremendous support here.

No doubt, look at most of the FBS and FCS team rosters in VA... a good number of those players come from the 757 (Ptown, Chesapeake, Newport News, Va Beach, Hampton, etc)... most of the famous Virginia athletes are from that area (The Vicks, Iverson, DeAngello Hall, Burress, Morning, the Uptons, Mark Reynolds, Zimmerman, David Wright, etc). If ODU puts together a few good seasons, I could see the tide of local 757 FCS recruits swinging over to ODU.... until then, enjoy the monorail :coffee:

The Do Not Read put out an article about JMU season tickets vrs ODU... I like that ODU has the capacity to sell these tickets, but I like the way JMU puts theirs together. Both schools hold back 5,000 seats (4K for students, 1K for the university/visiting) however that's where the similarities end. ODU sold 14K season tickets + 5K student for the 19,000 seats... that leaves no room for the average fan who doesn't want season tickets and can probably only make it down for a game or two (not to mention fans got turned back who were trying to buy season tickets). JMU leaves about 6,000 seats for the fan to buy walk up or individual game tickets... which is good for parents who may want to come to a single game or alumni who are coming into town for the weekend. The only way ODU alumns, parents or locals are going to get single game tickets is if ODU doesn't sell their allotment of Student/Visitor tickets or if they scalp a ticket... most universities offer single game tickets, but it still doesn't mean everyone is going to get a ticket, so scalping will occur either way if your school sells out games consistently. The demand is there at both JMU and ODU as it is at other universities, it's just up to how the athletic department wants to distribute the tickets.

You're right. We should have scheduled Alabama in our first year. Damn, an opportunity lost!

They are a first year program, give them a break. They do have a quality opponent in VMI and Monmouth is okay, and nothing wrong going the Montana route for scheduling, its worked for the Griz for several years now, a chance to have their team gel together, new players to learn the system and get any confusions out of the way, something a first year program needs :thumb:

Not at all was reffering to BlackFalkins use of the word cupcake teams, kinda like how for you OOC you schedule teams like western state, ect. in order to (as i said) give your team a chance to gel a bit more, get some expereince under their belts and so on and so forth. Wasnt reffering to the Griz's whole schedule :thumb:

I'm sure you don't follow east coast sorts, but ODU is a start-up team filled with freshmen and red shirt freshmen with a smattering of JUCOs. We are starting on a small scale to get the team to gel and yes, get some wins under our belt. Next year the schedule is tougher. In two years, we begin CAA play which will hardly be a schedule from the Hostess league. But for this year, we are giving our fans (including 14,300 season ticket holders) some wins to cheer about.

Listen, you ODU supporters having nothing to defend when someone calls your schedule a "cupcake" schedule this year...

Your AD and HC are doing exactly what a start-up program should do for it's first year, and you don't need to defend doing the right thing...

You might get a win or two...might not...but I doubt the loses will be beat-downs, which are confidence crushers...

I'm looking forward to you joining the full CAA schedule... :thumb:

It doesn't bother me. Had we had football for a while and had not been involved with a start-up program I wouldn't know just what goes into making it up and might have busted some other start-up on an easy opening schedule.

I look forward to us playing CAA schools, although the first few seasons are going to be brutal for us until we get up to full speed.

I know what would happen with an FBS team.

We'll get to them soon enough.

Thanks for the link, but I read that article last week when Rich first wrote it. Believe me, as a donor, season ticket holder, and a guy who has been working for ODU football since the late 70s, I've kept myself up to date with the stadium's progress. Win or lose, this season can't begin fast enough.

A huge congratulations to ODU. That's a terrific accomplishment for a first-year program.

Frankly, more FCS programs need to find a way to generate that kind of excitement.

FYI: since the first game is a sell out (actually they all are) the game will be televised all across Virginia. Not bad for a start up program. It will be fun to see where ODU goes from here. Stay tuned.

FYI: The Old Dominion Univ. return to football on September 5 (2 weeks from today) which was previously announced as being on TV in Virginia, is also being broadcast to D.C., North Carolina, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania. While the ODU team is young and the program is new, the excitement of a sold out stadium (20,000) and the atmosphere of a first game might be worth checking out.
