San Diego signs Fernando Tatis Jr. to a 14 year $320,000,000 contract. A nice bump for a 22 year old.
It's crazy money, but at least the Padres will be paying him bigly during what should be his most productive years.

Per MLB, the Orioles have a Blutarsky-like 0.0% chance of making the playoffs this year. Understandably, Baltimore fans are not thrilled with that conclusion....

Friend had this baseball Hall of Famer at his store today to sign autographs. I didn't recognize him with his glasses, do you?

I can barely see his face in that photo as he's not facing the camera - why does it matter if he's wearing glasses or not?

Tigers rookie Akil Baddoo hits a homerun on the first pitch of his first at bat in the majors. He had only reached Single A level ball prior to this season.
Tigers lost the game.

You know the Padres execs were squirming the other night when Tatis went down after swinging the bat. I'm glad he doesn't need surgery. Yet.AshevilleApp wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 11:43 pm San Diego signs Fernando Tatis Jr. to a 14 year $320,000,000 contract. A nice bump for a 22 year old.

Nats have 8 players on IR for Covid and Max Scherzer gives up FOUR solo HR's in the first three innings (technically 2.0 innings, first batter of 3rd) and the Nats still beat the Bravos on Juan Soto walk-off single in 9th.

Mets cheat to win: Walk-off HBP where the batter at least appeared to lean into the pitch. Should have been called on it....

Re: MLB 2021 Season
I'm not sure if Joe checks this board much anymore, but I am curious to hear his take on the Yankees pitchers going headhunting four different times in the past weekend series. The Rays did not retaliate. I'm sure he would rationalize some reason why the Yankees still have the higher ground. That team represents everything that is wrong with baseball.

Re: MLB 2021 Season
Padres got their first no-no of the franchise on Friday. Joe Musgrove is a local product (grew up and went to HS in the SD area) so that adds to the coolness of it. Also the catcher caught the last no-no when he was with the Cubs.

Re: MLB 2021 Season
The question of "unwritten rules" came up during the Pads' no-hitter against the Rangers. Just last year, a Ranger drew ire for blasting a 3-0 pitch out of the park for a grand slam late in the game when the Pads were up by the point-equivalent of a full touchdown. This time around, they thought about breaking up the no-no with a bunt when the Pads went into a shift on Anderson Tejada in the top of the seventh. That's apparently ALSO against the "unwritten rules." Ultimately, they held off, and Tejada struck out. Musgrove whiffed ten, and was only a HBP away from the perfecto. All in all, a great performance by a young pitcher, and surprising in an era that seems to eschew allowing a pitcher to finish what he starts, especially on a team that started the bogus "three-headed monster" that doomed the idea of a complete game (thank you, Bruce Bochy...NOT).

Re: MLB 2021 Season
Baddoo continues to impress. Based on an admittedly very small sampling, he's been a bright spot this year. Batting .391, with 4 HR's, 10 RBI's, an OPS of 1.443 and only 6 K's. It's highly doubtful that these kind of numbers will continue, but it's pretty good for a Rule 5 pickup from the Twins.AshevilleApp wrote: ↑Sun Apr 04, 2021 2:44 pm Tigers rookie Akil Baddoo hits a homerun on the first pitch of his first at bat in the majors.
