Dbacks sweep the Atlanta Baseball Team, including a double-header sweep featuring a 7-inning one hit shutout by Zack Gallen and a 7-inning no-hitter (almost a perfect game, only one baserunner reached via error) by Madison Bumgardner

1 hit in a double-header is amazing.

Batting .391, with 4 HR's, 10 RBI's, an OPS of 1.443 and only 6 K's. It's highly doubtful that these kind of numbers will continue, but it's pretty good for a Rule 5 pickup from the Twins.AshevilleApp wrote: ↑Sun Apr 04, 2021 2:44 pm Tigers rookie Akil Baddoo hits a homerun on the first pitch of his first at bat in the majors. He had only reached Single A level ball prior to this season.
Tigers lost the game.

He's still an upgrade. Tigers are batting .200 as a team. The whole lineup is on the Mendoza Line.Gil Dobie wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 9:06 pmNow hitting .212AshevilleApp wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 2:30 am

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

I'm told that my Reds' major malfunction is that despite having bats this year, they have no bullpen to speak of. Does that jive with your analysis, guys?

Spencer Turnbull of the Tigers pitches a no hitter against the Mariners. The 5th no-no thrown this season.

Certainly more to come. Chicks did the long ball, and that's all anyone looks for anymore. Not sure there's a contact hitter left in the game.AshevilleApp wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 1:55 amMake that 6 no hitters. Re: MLB 2021 Season
I think part of that might come from that punk Bruce Bochy, whose get-a-guy-on-and-sit-and-wait-for-the-jack philosophy ruined the game as far as I'm concerned, as did his stupid "three-headed-monster" pitching philosophy (a different reliever for the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings), which brought this bogus "6 innings is a quality start" mentality. As far as I'm concerned, he has NO place in the HOF because he ruined the game with this cr@p. We need guys like Rickey running wild on the basepaths, and bunting and hit-and-runs with great contact hitters to make the game good again....

I do miss the days of the stolen base. Heck, a guy stealing more than 100 bases in a year looks like DiMaggio's hitting streak now - who's ever going to do that again?SuperHornet wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 12:39 pmI think part of that might come from that punk Bruce Bochy, whose get-a-guy-on-and-sit-and-wait-for-the-jack philosophy ruined the game as far as I'm concerned, as did his stupid "three-headed-monster" pitching philosophy (a different reliever for the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings), which brought this bogus "6 innings is a quality start" mentality. Throwback game between Detroit and Cleveland last night. The Tigers win 1-0, with the run provided by a lead off double-sac bunt-sac fly sequence in the 8th inning.

Re: MLB 2021 Season
Phillies played a game the other night against Miami - total of 7 hits in the whole game. Phillies have two hits as a team, both in the same inning, one of which was a 2-run HR. Of the other 8 innings, the Phillies go 1-2-3 in 7 of the innings and in the other they get a walk only to have the next guy ground into a double play. And the Phils somehow won that game. Baseball is hard to watch sometimes. Certainly much better when you get to be there in nice weather and eat some food. A game like that on TV doesn't stay on very long before it's channel surfing time.

With the Negro League statistics being added to the all-time Major League career stats, some of the list are changing. Josh Gibson is at .374, but 500 plate appearances below the needed 3000. Research may get him beyond 3000 and past Ty Cobb for #1.
