Why? Because thin skinned scolds can't handle people disagreeing with them so they need/want to force them to do what they "know" is right? Fauci and his ilk with masks aren't so different from Trump with the BLM riots in Portland in that regard.

So what if people are going to lie or "be sensible". The vaccine is available, if they don't want to get it and don't want to wear masks, that's their decision. They have to face the consequences if they get sick.

If we'd had this approach to government 100's of years ago we never would have let people cross the Appalachians because it was too dangerous.
Some of it is thin skinned scolds for sure. But last I looked, it’s still a deadly disease that could have killed considerably more and caused greater or longer duration lockdowns.

I’m all for freedom and less government too. It would be nice if people didn’t compromise their own community health in public or be ok with voluntarily staying at home so the rest of us who acted responsibly can get on with our lives.

8-)
Yes it's deadly but it's also not nearly as deadly as people in power and the media have led many people (especially Democrats) to believe.

I'm sorry but people doing their own thing is what freedom is about. I believe that freedom is valuable and worth the risks. If you don't you can change the system or move somewhere with less freedom and more security. Just be forewarned that I will fight tooth & nail against attempts to change our system to be less free.

Why are people listening to a going on 50 year DC bureaucrat (Fauci)?
B/c he's a specialist in the field, has an impressive career with decades of experience, accolades, achievements and has more knowledge about infectious diseases than an ophthalmologist and a crooked reality tv star.

That's crazy, right? !

This guy doesn't understand that freedom can be messy and that we thankfully don't live in a totalitarian state.
True. And people not doing sensible things like wear a mask and get vaccinated will ironically push us more toward totalitarianism.
Wearing a worthless mask is sensible. :suspicious:
Its the people that were pushing the masks, vaccinations, lockdowns, vaccine passports, etc that are leading us more towards totalitarianism..

No need to apologize and I could write the bottom paragraph as well.

330 million people is about 297,999,970 too many. That’s the root of the issue. 30 people left to do their own thing is manageable. You and I both know that beyond that, rights are limited. It will be interesting and sometimes scary to see how rights are re-defined over the course of our lives.

In the current case and whenever possible in general, those lost freedoms should be temporary.

I’ll make you a deal. I’ll stick around and keep you from straying too close to the objectivist/anarchist cliff if you remain here as well, pushing back against the do gooder Karen types.

Not at all...
In other words, if a Texan learns that a neighbor had an abortion seven weeks after getting pregnant, he could file suit against the physician who performed the procedure. And the nurse who was in the room. And the friend who drove the neighbor to the health clinic.

Whether that litigious Texan has anything to do with the neighbor or her family is, under the state's new law, irrelevant. The AP report added, "Critics say that provision would allow abortion opponents to flood the courts with lawsuits to harass doctors, patients, nurses, domestic violence counselors, a friend who drove a woman to a clinic, or even a parent who paid for a procedure."

Critics say that, of course, because it's true.

MSNBC's Laura Bassett noted an ironic twist: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) signed the abortion ban just one day after the Republican governor signed a measure banning local government entities, including public schools, from enforcing COVID-19 mask mandates.

After signing the executive order, Abbott wrote on twitter, "Texans, not [government], should decide their best health practices."

Freedom!
One coronavirus survivor manages her medical bills in color-coded folders: green, red and tan for different types of documents. A man whose father died of the virus last fall uses an Excel spreadsheet to organize the outstanding debts. It has 457 rows, one for each of his father’s bills, totaling over $1 million.

These are people who are facing the financial version of long-haul Covid: They’ve found their lives and finances upended by medical bills resulting from a bout with the virus.

Their desks and coffee tables have stacks of billing documents. They are fluent in the jargon of coronavirus medical coding, after hundreds of hours of phone calls discussing the charges with hospitals, doctors and insurers.

“People think there is some relief program for medical bills for coronavirus patients,” said Jennifer Miller, a psychologist near Milwaukee who is working with a lawyer to challenge thousands in outstanding debt from two emergency room visits last year. “It just doesn’t exist.”

So am I understanding this correctly - Texas signed a bill into law that they can't enforce but they're expecting the population to become snitches and enforce it?

Apparently Texas was a little slow in developing the “Karen” complex, so this bill is an attempt to escalate that process.

It's a deflection, he doesn't like "but Trump" arguments/additions because he doesn't like it when someone makes Dear Leader look bad. It's kind of like Jelly not liking "but Hillary" arguments/additions.
