Re: Poll: Who will win the Big Sky in 2009?
In the past I have thought various teams could knock off the GRIZ, but it just has not happened. Until it does, my vote will be for the GRIZ every year. Some year I will be wrong.
If someone were to take it from the GRIZ, my top choice would be Weber State , followed closely by Montana State.

I went out on a limb and picked Montana. For some odd reason, I think THIS is their year...

Re: Poll: Who will win the Big Sky in 2009?
I think that the Big Sky is going to be in for a heck of a race and I can make the case for UM, MSU, EWU and Weber
Griz - just reload from a championship team, but will be breaking in a new quarterback. Weber has shown that they are not invincible.
Weber - Their offense is scary with of Higgins, Nakamura, Toone??, and Smith leading the way, but their defense lost a lot starters and MSU comes to town early.
EWU - Mirror image of Weber in offensive firepower but their defense will be very inexperienced
MSU - Returns the #1 defense in conference and will actually be a lot stronger than last year. Smith and Fletcher will create havoc as the best DE tandem in the conference. Last year the Cats suffered a ton of injuries along the dline and developed a lot of talent along the way. All they need is an average performance out of their passing attack and stop turning the ball over 4 times a game and they could roll.
Bobcats conference title outright.

Re: Poll: Who will win the Big Sky in 2009?
The Griz are reloading ONLY at QB. Their defense will be better than that MSU defense that coughed up 35 against the Griz in November. MSU could not score a TD against that Griz defense. Weber got one two weeks later.bpcats wrote:I think that the Big Sky is going to be in for a heck of a race and I can make the case for UM, MSU, EWU and Weber

So much for the defense. The Griz have Chase Reynolds and Mark Mariani. Same old story.

Re: Poll: Who will win the Big Sky in 2009?
This poll was kinda useless on here since half the people on this forum are Montana fans! , but i havent picked yet because i firmly believe the decision for the title will come when the Cats visit the Griz in Missoula this year
Re: Poll: Who will win the Big Sky in 2009?
What year are you talking about? The game is in Bozeman this year. I agree, It could be Montana's toughest game.SUUTbird wrote:This poll was kinda useless on here since half the people on this forum are Montana fans! , but i havent picked yet because i firmly believe the decision for the title will come when the Cats visit the Griz in Missoula this year

Re: Poll: Who will win the Big Sky in 2009?
Here are my standings predictions which I posted earlier on bigskyfans:
Two playoff teams (as always): Montana & Weber.
After picking the games, I'm surprised PSU ended up that high.
UM should get a top-4 seed, Weber could as well.
The ties for third & sixth would come down to Sagarin rating.
- 1. Montana ______________8-0_____11-0____ More of the same from the Griz
2. Weber State___________7-1_____9-2_____ Run defense is a concern, but the offense looks unstoppable
3t. Eastern Washington__5-3_____7-4_____ Passing & run defense good, running & pass defense bad
3t. Montana State _______5-3_____7-4_____ Can the offense do enough to aid the stellar D?
3t. Portland State________5-3_____7-4_____ If the OC change isn't a disaster, the Viks could be quite dangerous
6t. Northern Colorado___2-6_____3-8_____ The offense & defense are uniformly mediocre
6t. Northern Arizona ____2-6_____3-8_____ Good news for 'Jack fans: no more 6-5
6t. Sacramento State ____2-6_____2-9 ____ Losing Hilliard on top of Mulitalo & Brannon really hurts
9. Idaho State ___________0-8_____1-10____ As usual, ISU's defense looks bloody awful

Re: Poll: Who will win the Big Sky in 2009?
I expect MSU and UM to finish 1-2 in total defense this year. The Cats held Reynolds to 129 yds rushing and Bergquist to 10-22 passing with a td. Crawford rolled up 212 yds rushing against the Griz defense.
Where the Cats got into trouble is that 3 fumbles, 2 interceptions (returned for a touchdown), and a punt return for a TD, tends to lead to a worn out defense by the 4th quarter. Desin was 7-20 in pass attempts.
The scary team that everybody better not forget about is Eastern Washington. They are in the process of appealing the post season ban and they won't know until late October/November when they play the Griz and then the Cats back to back. They will be in their second year of their new defense, and they started 3 or 4 freshman olineman last year that held up pretty good by the end of the season.

Re: Poll: Who will win the Big Sky in 2009?
Pretty straight forward...Weber cannot win in Missoula and everyone else is at least a step behind those two. Montana sure bet to the playoffs.
Weber, not so sure...
at Wyoming (L)
at Colorado State (L)
at Montana (L)
at EWU (?)
Montana State (?)
How do they need to do in these last two games?
How about these so called "trap" games...
at Portland State (right before Montana State)
at Northern Colorado (right before Montana)
Can they afford to look past these games? Hmmmm........

Re: Poll: Who will win the Big Sky in 2009?
As far as PSU goes (I can't get my programs to place us where I think we are either), looking at it on paper could justify why. Our schedule is very top-heavy as we get done playing both Montana and Weber before September is done (with Weber at home). With EWU moving the game to Seattle, that means, after going to Montana, the only actual campuses we visit this year are Northern Colorado and Idaho State (both somewhat winnable). We got Northern Arizona, Sac State and Montana State all at home. After September, if we hold serve at home, split on the road and get the EWU game (of which Glanville has not lost to EWU), we could actually have a pretty good season. Hell, we could actually go into the Montana State game (our last home game of the year) with something to fight for and based on how our offseason has gone, I will take that in a heartbeat.Mvemjsunpx wrote:Here are my standings predictions which I posted earlier on bigskyfans:
