Brett will go to the pen when he gets back. Hopefully, Pedro will be effective and Moyer will be put out to pasture. I just don't think the old man would be successful as a reliever.JMU DJ wrote:So where does the rotation go from here?
Does it consist of Hamels, Lee, Happ, Martinez and Blanton? What happens when Brett Meyers comes back? Does Moyer go to the bull pen?

I was just thinking... the phils still have all the players the BJ's want for Halladay... could they possibly????
So Brett Meyers wants to be in the Bull Pen right? If he makes it back, that would be great... but I'm still wondering about Moyer, when Pedro comes up there is going to be no room in the starting rotation for him... will the Phils put him in the bull pen? Trade him... or maybe Happ?

Re: 2009 Philadelphia Phillies Thread
2009 stats for the players the Phils gave up in this trade -
Marson - .294 1HR 24 RBI in 63 games at Lehigh Valley - many questions about his defensive ability
Donald - .236 1HR 16 RBI at Lehigh Valley - coming off knee surgery
Carrasco - 6-8 with a 5.16 ERA in 20 starts at Lehigh Valley
Knapp 2-7 with a 4.01 ERA in 17 starts at low A Lakewood - also sidelined with a knee injury.
The Phillies got a steal!

I think it's a pretty safe bet that Moyer will not be on the playoff roster. I hope they don't trade him because I don't think they would get much for him and they might need him as a 5th starter for next year.JMU DJ wrote:I was just thinking... the phils still have all the players the BJ's want for Halladay... could they possibly????

Moyer will be a great pitching coach if he wants to be.

Another win for young Happ: 7-0 shutout of the Rockies. Uncle Cholly, give Moyer a new rocker in the bullpen and keep Happ in the rotation!
(Won't Happ-en, though. )

Martinez also had a good start in AA last night... 11K's in six innings. 9 of the first 12 outs were strike outs.

They would be crazy to keep Moyer in the rotation over Happ. I keep my fingers crossed everytime Moyer pitches. Moyer needs help from the umpire and opposing hitters to win. If the umpire has a small strike zone and the hitters are patient Moyer gets rocked.Ivytalk wrote:Another win for young Happ: 7-0 shutout of the Rockies. The posibility of a 6 man rotation has been brought up. This might not be a bad idea in September, that way the Phils pitchers will be rested when the playoffs start. Also, they can get a good look at Pedro without having to sit someone that might be needed later.

Re: 2009 Philadelphia Phillies Thread
According to Reuben Amaro Happ is staying in the rotation. Looks like Moyer and Martinez will compete for the 5th spot. That might be a moot issue since the Phils will likely go to a four man rotation for the playoffs. I don't think Moyer will be on the playoff roster, Martinez will have to pitch like he did a few years ago to have a shot. Martinez looked good in his AA start last night, but there is a huge difference between AA regular season and MLB post season.BlueHen86 wrote:They would be crazy to keep Moyer in the rotation over Happ. I keep my fingers crossed everytime Moyer pitches. Another solid outing by Cliff Lee this afternoon giving up one run over seven innings in a 3-1 Phillies win.
I hope I'm not looking too far ahead, but a rotation of Lee, Hamels, Blanton and Happ looks pretty good to me for the playoffs.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Pedro end up in the pen.

So the Phils get swept at home by the frickin' Marlins. Why doesn't this team have a killer instinct? AND WHAT'S WRONG WITH HAMELS??

Pedro is scheduled to pitch Wednesday against the Cubbies. Should be interesting...

Yeah, he had a good showing in AA... but that's AA and this is the Majors. We'll see how he handles it.
Meyers is pitching simulation games too, which is ahead of schedule... Durbin and Romero are making minor league appearances also. Sounds like the phils should have all their pitching in order (hopefully) for the final stretch.
Re: 2009 Philadelphia Phillies Thread
Phils Swept by the Fish... Moyer to the bullpen... Victorino ejected by the home plate umpire while standing 300+ feet away in center field... What a weekend.
Re: 2009 Philadelphia Phillies Thread
Just saw that Pedro will be making his start against former ND standout Jeff Samardzija... who is making his first MLB start. Should be interesting, just looking at Samardzija's stats this year, doesn't look like he's been doing to well in he pen. Have a feeling one, or both pitchers could get lit up tonight, hopefully Pedro can maintain his control and his fastball.
Re: 2009 Philadelphia Phillies Thread
Good outing for Martinez... he hung a few over the center of the plate that could have been crushed. Samardzija got creamed. Four straight hits for extra bases, 8 extra base hits in 4 innings.... and then you get this class act...

... apparently they got the wrong guy too.

Good, close win for the Phils last night in Hotlanta. Victorino playing lights-out defense; clutch HR for Howard; and another solid outing from tough-luck Joe Blanton. Cole better come through today!

Re: 2009 Philadelphia Phillies Thread
Cole pitches okay today but Brad Lidge blows another save as the Phillies lose 4-3. Lidge made 2 errors on the same play, allowing the tying run to score and the winning run to get to third. Lidge bobbled and threw away an attempted sacrifice bunt, essentially turning it into a triple. The Phils also wasted 3 runner-on-third-nobody-out opportunities earlier in the game.Ivytalk wrote:Good, close win for the Phils last night in Hotlanta. Re: 2009 Philadelphia Phillies Thread
I can't tell if this article is real or not. Brett Meyers clarifying how he got injured and why he missed his rehab start. The end is probably the best.
http://www.phillygameday.com/2009/08/my ... or-injury/The Phillies originally said Saturday that Myers injured his eye while playing catch with his 4-year-old son.
Later that day, Myers told the team he slipped on a banana peel while getting out of his truck, hit his face and noticed several birds flying around his head.
Good game last night, though it was typical Phillies. Score all the runs in one or two burst, all off home runs. But hey, Lidge didn't blow a save opportunity, though he was only in for the final out.

Phils beat dbacks 5-1. Moyer throws blanks in 6 innings of relief. Pedro gives up bomb to first batter he faces in Philly but then settles down before long rain delay.

Phils clobber Dbacks, 12-3, on Jewish Heritage night. The Phanatic and friend did the hora; "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" done in Yiddish; pretty good Klezmer band; Orthodox bottle dancers, etc.
BUT WERE THERE ANY FREE PHILLIES DREIDELS OR OTHER TCHOTCHKES? NOOO!!
