But they earned that through union contracts....just like the auto workers....
And the police, and firemen, and airline pilots, and prison guards, and pro athletes...... :coffee:

No, competing with private industry is. As you pointed out about health care interference.
See, that's where you've got me ALL wrong, Mounty. If I thought for one MINUTE that the government could do healthcare better, cheaper, and more efficiently than private industry, I'd be all OVER that. But they CAN'T, as they've proven time and time again throughout history. We'll end up with some half-assed bloated government program full of partisan compromises, that doesn't do anything NEAR what it was originally envisioned to do, at 2-3X the estimated original cost.

THAT'S WHAT GOVERNMENT DOES. :o :coffee:
The government could do health care better, cheaper, and more efficiently than private industry with one simple requirement: that Congress be forced to paarticipate in whatever plan they enact.

All right, I'll give in to the fray and be completely off topic. Z, by that logic, why do you oppose the government getting involved in all segments of industry? It's not consistent man. You really want the USPS to compete against private enterprise? What other industry should the government compete in?
Our government already attempts to compete in many areas. And they lose every time.   And healthcare will be no different. :shake: :shake: :shake: :shake:
Not so. We're number one in arms sales. :coffee:

Pie, Ursus likey.

This was another great read fellas even if it did go off topic as soon as AZ hit the thread.

Here's my rankings on this thread.
1. Hogan-the article 10 line sealed this competition up for him. GOLD
2. Houndawg-Nailed down the Silver medal with the Arms comment, and Congress using the publc health care.
3. Appaholic-Takes the Bronze in this one. Showed some real spunk toward the middle and end after suffering some early internal conflict.

Runner's up: ASUMountaineer, TTBF, & AZGriz
You guys carried the brunt of the thread and were the real work horses on it but weren't able to make your points clear and had to repeat them several times to each other. TTBF had a real solid counter to AZ's "profitability" question with government serving the public good that private business would not serve. AZ got a clear answer on that but didn't recognize it as such and then tripped over his own dick advocating socialism. AZ made valid points about government not being able to compete due to overhead and scored strong there in the judges mind though. ASUMountaineer started slow by thinking that a thread (any thread) on this board should stay on topic but recovered nicely in the later rounds and hit AZ with nice haymakers that kept him off balance and not understanding Mounts humor in agreeing with AZ which kept AZ arguing longer than he should have.

All in all this was a decent read and I would give it 3 2/3 out of a possible 5 stars.

There's your recap people. :thumb:

I want to thank my wife and family for all the support they gave me during this project....to my manager Phil...my accountant and friend Bill....to the distillers of Macallan, and to all the little people who have been behind me all this time....thank you...

But most of all, I want to thank Ursus for his recognition....without his strong support I would be nowhere....

How is the government actively operating to try and eliminate it's competition not socialistic?

ASU, they're not "operating to try and eliminate it's competition"....they were there FIRST.

And I thought you were being sarcastic. That's why I argued. If you'd have said "I've apparently got you ALL wrong, ****", then I'd have known you were kidding. :coffee: :coffee:
