For sure, but JMU isn't nearly cocky as they were against Montana, so that tells me they aren't able to dominate physically like they did against Montana. It's not a knock on them, they beat Montana like a rented mule, it's just that NDSU is in much better physical shape than Montana was.

I don’t know. 2016 came in after giving 100% in huge qtrfinal win over SHSU.
-Defense for the most part did its job except looking like they’d never seen a fullback, much less covered one.

Offense
-Didn’t handle the noise any better in 2016 (that year 6-7 false starts, all but 1 on 1 OL). Were just the better team that year, good enough to overcome all that. Tonight similar- 5 pre snap mistakes but spread among 4 players (4 false starts and OC snapping the ball when Johnson hadn’t clapped/wasn’t ready/almost lost fumble/huge loss). Thought would handled the noise better.

-Johnson’s 2 INTs were obviously huge-prevented at least a JMU FG, maybe more. One boneheaded throw into trying to throw it to the AA #7 into 2 high safety covereage. Meanwhile missed a WIDE OPEN #8. Other INT under pressure and NDSU DB made higlight reel INT.

Probably woukdn’t have changed the outcome, but would have been nice to find out with 28 more seconds on final possession. Don’t understand how that could have happened and booth official not noticed.


Edit: The officials probably should have called JMU on a 2nd half horse collar on that return and an interference on a pass play. And I think the officilas botched the clock on NDSU’s 2 pt conversion so they had to settle for 1. I don’t get the incompetence.

Agree. The refs were from the SoCon I believe and were over their head all game.Bunch of missed or botched calls on both sides. And that final runoff of the time was a real WTF. They (the refs noticed it) but for some reason didn't do anything about it.

As for our botched 2pt conversion, Entz was on the field (about a 1/3 of the distance between the sidelines and hash marks) at around 5/6 or so seconds and couldn't get their attention to call a timeout to avoid the penalty.

That was a really good football game. Both sides showed it's still possible to play defense. Great plays by players on both sides. Outstanding.
