Is he opposing BBB to protect the fossil fuel industry or because it's a colossal fiscal disaster in the making? Could it be both?

What other Dem besides Manchin has a chance to win a Senate race in WV? A Justice Democrats candidate would be buried in the general election. Primary Manchin and you practically give the seat to the Republican Party.

Is Joe Manchin a Democratic Party version of Liz Cheney or Justin Amash?
He doesn’t care about long term economics. He’s protecting his donors interests and his own. Kicks the ladder down behind him.

I’m fine with the Dems losing a seat. At some point as both parties continue to fail the working class, we might see some shakeup.

Manchin is a corporate, corrupt whore. I’d like to think Cheney and Amash are less so.
You're ignoring the reality that Cheny's a neo-con along the lines of her dad, Rummy, Hillary, etc. You excuse her because you support her fight with Trump and the MAGAts. You want to make a big deal of Manchin's prostitution because his "ideals" are an obstacle to something you support.

They're all whores, even Bernie with his 3 houses and millions made profiting from the recognition that his supposed public service has given him. Even the illiberal darling AOChe is taking her baby steps into the whorehouse.

Not at all. We’re talking two different types of principle (it was you who conflated things with Amash and Cheney - not that I mind). Cheney is politically principled when it comes to saving Democracy. I’m obviously well aware of her other stances. I’m not saying I’d vote for her.

Yes they’re all whores. Some are just are just more selective or hotter than others.

Even if he is a corruptocrat, his obstruction of that profligate abortion of a bill in the middle of the worst inflation since the 1970s is more than welcome.

And if the idiot Dems primary him and he somehow loses, WV goes full red and then the Dems won't have Ol Fascisty Manchin to run to the fainting couches over... it will be the 60 GOP seats in the Senate and a 20 seat margin in the House. If the last election wasn't a lesson that America doesn't want transformational economic change, then the next one surely will be. By demonizing Manchin, Dems are just chasing more votes over to the GOP.
I’m fine with all of that. I’m also fine with the BBB. At least some social spending has an ROI and it might be enough crumbs to satisfy the unwashed masses.

Point me in the direction of current political leaders who are unhypocritical regarding inflation.

Well I agree with Cheney in her fight with the Trumpkins and I agree with Manchin in his fight for fiscal sanity. I try to be a post-partisan voice of reason like that ...

Joe Manchin approved a defense spending package with a higher cost than even the version of BBB that the squad wanted in reconciliation. It's about deciding who gets the soshalizm, not whether we'll have it at all.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

            BBB is pure fatty bacon.
Not really. Some of it is playing catch up to social programs other advanced nations already enjoy. Done it helps to increase worker productivity.

Of course it has its share of pork. Most legislation does. But many of these ideas have mass appeal…dare I even say are populist?

If we’re truly worried about the debt, then raise taxes….or cut military spending at least a little.
            How very Congressional of you.

Payments to illegal immigrants, free community college, $50k tax credits to print journalists, guaranteed 4 weeks leaves for all workers, etc., etc..

For an "infrastructure" bill it sure has alot of non-infrastructure in it. You would fit right in with any Congresscritter in DC.

The problems are systemic. No argument there. And there’s a whole bunch I disagree with including many of the same ones you find problematic.

IMO we are best off when we have a strong working class which benefits from things like family leave, longer vacations, and a retirement with dignity. Crony capitalism is not providing those things as efficiently as our peer nations.

We are a mixed economy that is falling behind due to neoliberal economics.

We’ve had 40 years waiting for that rising tide.

Crony capitalism works about as well as social welfare. In that it doesn't.

IMHO the best way to create a strong working class and foster innovation is to get the government out of peoples lives. More social programs, higher taxes, and more red tape by an already bloated government does not do that.

It ALL needs to be cut. :twocents:

This would be fine if none of us had a history of where we stand politically.

In this case…you’re applauding a “corruptocrat” because he scratches your limited government itch over an “abortion of a bill”. The irony…

So? Freebies will always receive better ratings. Kinda of like the saying "There is no bad free beer."

And who said anything about austerity?

You live within your means and you have self-control on your spending. If you don't, you deal with the consequences. No work, no eat. And maybe you don't get that 80" TV you been lusting after.

I have no problem with helping those that need a helping hand. Just believe it is the role of private parties and not the government to do so. You should really take a read at the private aid organizations that existed in the first 100 year or so of America. They filled the need without government involvement and much more efficiently as well.

The government has taken "helping" people out to "providing" for on a permanent basis. But hey, aleast they vote the way they are told.
