Obviously they're going to say that whether they believe it or not. Duh :coffee:

So you think its a bluff and Putin won't invade?
He doesn't need to. The West will allow him to take the "Russian" parts of Ukraine. If he takes "too much" then it'll go hot.

And no one outside of the warmongering elites and MIC will give a fuck.
Sudetenland anybody? The 2022 Munich Agreement has already been signed.

This may well be the end of the invasion for now. Russian separatists can now just “invite” the Russian military into the Donbas region.

Depends on who you are. If you're Russia - yes. They were invited in by comrades. If you're the Ukraine or NATO - it's an invasion. :twocents:
Exactly. And, Ukraine must concede those territories to Russia. If not and the fighting continues, Russia uses it as pretext to sack Kiev and reinstall a puppet.

And you’ve gotta love Putin’s claim that Ukraine and Russia are one people, one big happy family. Tell that to the four million Ukrainians that Stalin starved to death during forced collectivization in 1932-33.

 I didn't realize until today that there was a campaign to get the world to call the capital Kyiv. Even in college it was "Kiev." Also didn't realize there was a Ukrainian language.

Apparently, "Kiev" is from the Russian language while "Kyiv" is Ukrainian. It doesn't end there, I believe all Russian-based Ukrainian names are changing to reflect the Ukrainian language. This current crisis has really ratcheted up the use of Kyiv. :coffee:

It was still Kiev when I was there about 10 years ago. Nice city and would go back (maybe after the dust settles a bit).

Everybody be overreacting - SD Hornet says there won't be an invasion. And he might be right. But I think Donnie's Daddy wants to go back to the good old days and that he's willing to pay the economic price to make it happen. How many divisions does NATO have?

And, it's transliteration... Both are pronounced the same. Ivy might as well insist of using the Ukrainian Cyrillic alphabet.

This linguistic issue has been in the news for weeks. You’re not educating anyone here. Try to keep up. So, how’s Anna Kournikova doing?

NATO and the US will protest but they will not characterize it as a kinetic action, and nothing will happen. The White House is already carefully parsing out what they would consider an invasion to be. And Germany will never characterize a military “assist” in Donbas as an invasion.

Putin has gotten exactly what he wants - for now.

I had the opportunity to try and type on a Cyrillic keyboard once. Big emphasis on "try" as there were some weird double keys that kept on throwing me for a loop.

There’s a compilation video circulating out there showing several politicians and policy officials pooh poohing Romney’s comments on Russia -

Obama just dismissed it with a trademark snarky reply but there Are several people, like Madeline Albright, who go into great unicorny detail about how Romney is completely wrong. It is like a greatest hits of the left being wrong on Russia, which is like a greatest hits of songs Stevie Wonder wrote while he was blind.

But back when Romney said it, I also said he was wrong - Russia was not our number one geopolitical foe. China was, and still is. Russia is a close second.

The proper response to Obama’s dismissal would have been for Romney to ask Obama “if not Russia, then who?”…. because Obama would have flubbed it by not calling out China OR Russia

Imagine if Trump would of said "I'll have more flexibility in my second term" to Putin.

Heads would have exploded, teeth ground down to nubs, and entire forest's needed to be harvested just to try to keep up with the anguish that would be generated by such a statement.
