Basically you fill out some paperwork, give it and some cash to the sheriff, then go to a class and give the instructor a few bucks he signs off on you and you are set.


I actually got to go shoot. I know the instructor and we went and made a day of it. It was awesome.

Here is what I think they should do. JUST MY OPINION.

1. Take written exam, Not hard just common sense stuff. If you do not pass, forced to take 1 (8) hour class then retake exam.
2. Finger print and background check
3. Show you can handle your weapon
4. Show you can shoot your weapon
5. Get card that day

In Texas, if you have a CCP, by law you must hand the permit to a cop WITH YOUR LICENSE even if you are not carrying at that time...because if he runs a license check, it will come back that your have a CCP...and if you hadn't notified him...the SHTF...

I needed a little motivation, and after reading all the posts in this thread, I'm now motivated to do something I've been putting off for quite a long time, and that is the purchase of a Colt, AR-15.


Within the next two weeks, if anyone wants to see it, I'd suggest making a "Lunch in Missoula" gathering, (usually, sometime around 11:30, MST, Fridays)...of course you'll also be introduce to one of Ruger's finer products, and quite possibly a Beretta 92FS during lunch time.

Well since this thread came back to the top I'll add this... Members of the State and Federal militaries are exempt from all State firearms laws in Georgia. I'm not kidding.

O.C.G.A. § 16-11-130 (2009)

§ 16-11-130. Exemptions from Code Sections 16-11-126 through 16-11-128

(a) Code Sections 16-11-126 through 16-11-128 shall not apply to or affect any of the following persons if such persons are employed in the offices listed below or when authorized by federal or state law, regulations, or order:

(1) Peace officers, as such term is defined in paragraph (11) of Code Section 16-1-3, and retired peace officers so long as they remain certified whether employed by the state or a political subdivision of the state or another state or a political subdivision of another state but only if such other state provides a similar privilege for the peace officers of this state;

(2) Wardens, superintendents, and keepers of correctional institutions, jails, or other institutions for the detention of persons accused or convicted of an offense;

(3) Persons in the military service of the state or of the United States
