And a 7th Russian general has been killed.

On a related note…sounds like Shoigu came out of light speed too close to the system.

6 or 7. One is disputed. BBC updated few hours ago lists the 6 confimed.

So what's the real story? Educate us. :coffee:
The political elite started a proxy war to protect their money laundering scheme in the Ukraine. :coffee:
Almost.

Which political elite?

This is the most reckless thing I have ever heard a US President say publicly.

When it comes to not listening to his advisors and following their advice,

Biden = Trump

https://hotair.com/allahpundit/2022/03/ ... er-n458214

Like former SecSef Gates said - Biden has been on the wrong side of every major foreign policy position of the last 40 years, and boy he sure as hell extended the streak today.

I don’t think this can be walked back. He just validated every bit of Russian propaganda about NATO.

If that is the case then Biden needs to be regime-changed himself - via the 25th Amendment. He is obviously mentally incapacitated for that comment

It is absolutely berserk to call for regime change in a nuclear superpower. There is plenty of evidence that Putin is not all there. The last thing we need is a US president who is also fucking bonkers. At this point, I’d take Kamala because she’s no threat to anything

Edit- where are all the Democrats who clutched their pearls over Reagan calling the USSR the evil empire? We need those Dems today. Where the fuck are they?

Hard to disagree. Need to rise above the meaningless rhetoric that Russia is putting out. And now China, to certain extent. I mean the threats are implicit anyway. Most of the world has already decided to economically decapitate Putin.

We'll see what happens. I have been thinking for a while that all involved should start appealing directly to others in Russia. Basically saying, "look, this guy is going to lead you to ruin." The proposition that Putin needs to be removed is a pretty reasonable proposition.

Very interesting piece on some of the left’s Russia sympathy and inability to - as the author notes - walk and chew gum. Ideological purity vs. pragmatism. It’s an unfair world frequently governed by deeply flawed humans weighing what’s morally right against political survival.
The West is obviously guilty because it provoked Russia, but whatever sins it may have committed, it also has an obvious right to self-determination - after all, it is inconceivable that anyone should decide for the US, Canada, or the UK. The people oppressed by the West - Iraqis, Afghans, Palestinians, indigenous people - also have this right and they deserve it for centuries of colonial oppression. East and Central Europe, on the other hand, neither the West nor its victims, a liminal zone, a bit wild, a bit barbaric, something between a younger brother and a provincial uncle, the mythical land of Borduria, Zubrowka, Ruritania, can be sacrificed. After all, it's not the first time and probably not the last.

According to this logic, in 2014 it was not the Ukrainians who decided that they were closer to the European Union than the Eurasian Union - it was the US that staged a coup, apparently in a social vacuum. Whether the Eastern and Central European states wanted to join NATO is not of the slightest importance: their admission to the North Atlantic Alliance was clearly a mistake because God forbid you will have to live up to your treaty obligations. It would be far better to leave a "buffer zone" of no-man's land. The whole East-Central Europe is just a pawn on the geopolitical chessboard, spoils passing from hand to hand and having no say regarding its own future.

And while such a cynical and blunt approach to international relations would not be a surprise on the right side of the political spectrum, it is very puzzling to see the left, which is usually so sensitive to other people's harm and defends the right to define its own identity, adopt the same stance. Apparently, some of its representatives cannot walk and chew gum at the same time: they are incapable of denouncing American imperialism and noticing the Russian one for what it is. Well, Russia has a range of methods and a long tradition of inspiring useful idiots.

That is not correct. There was never a move to exit NATO, and in fact it isn’t entirely clear that Trump would have been able to do it unilaterally anyway.

We had already secured a pledge from Germany to spend a higher percentage of their GDP on defense- thereby bringing them into compliance with their treaty obligations, which was Trump’s biggest gripe.

Additionally, Trumps own actions were nowhere near consistent with a planned exit from NATO. He signed off on the additions of Montenegro and North Macedonia during his term, which are now the two weakest members, who we are now treaty bound to defend.
