Much like "phase II", completion is on the boards, but the date is uncertain.

We don't like to talk about that very much..........
Actually, we made lemonade out of that lemon. Lockheed Martin built the MagLev (not a monorail, that technology was available in the 60s) and screwed it up. After the screw up was found, LM got a large government contract and said they would not fix the thing. They admitted it in the Orlando Sentinel. ODU engineering has used the MagLev as a lab and has made progress on it while educating engineering students.

Back on topic, it's great to be here and we are anxious to join the mix. While we have a laughable schedule in our first year, rest assured that will not become a habit.

Man I can't bang on ODU AT ALL for the way they sceduled. For a startup team there is not a schedule out there that would make they think they were taking the easy route. This is a school that has never done any of this before. They've never worked on cantracts to get a schedule done and to get a full schedule for the first year and find the teams to fill it is still fairly impressive no matter who it is. It looks to me like there are some very savvy people with the proper motivation at ODU and it's gonna great to see them get out there and start competing. I wish em' the best of luck.

Its not that bad of a schedule.

Monmouth

Jacksonville

All solid teams. Not National Championship contenders, but definitely decent FCS teams.

Damn right, ODU is doing this exactly the right way. Even subtracting the two D-IIs, that is a schedule that quite a few teams wouldn't have a winning record with. Freshmen and JuCo transfers aren't going to be able to handle a schedule like the rest of the CAA plays and won't be for several years (except, of course, Georgia State  ).

I think ODU will be playoff competitive in the next 4-5 years, with their local talent base there is no reason why the Monarchs shouldn't be. But to expect a winning record this year is absolutely ridiculous, especially for anyone who has spent time around football at this level.

So it will take a while for me to grasp the differences between this and NFL-type football (rules, clocks, OT, schemes, etc.). And this community appears top notch and there seems to be a lot less urine throwing then at the CAAzone.
Well, probably since JMU has sucked at basketball for years, I never fully got into the CAAZone. I've thought for years that site is for the basketball schools, and being run by Mason grads you can understand why.

But there is good discussion for football, at least on the JMU boards, and until GaSt announced their intentions, the football board was decent as well. And FWIW, the W&M posters on the Zone are some of the best. Don't worry, it'll improve. :thumb:

Showoff!

I just looked at GSU's first year of football and we played several Div II schools, Fort Benning (rec league), and Florida St. JV squad. This ODU schedule is much more respectable.

I like what ODU is doing, and their ticket sales seem to indicate that there is a TON of interest in this program, which is great. I think ODU's folks have realized that what they need to do is get some wins right off the bat, play in competitive games, excite the fans... if they were to play a full CAA sked right now, they'd get squashed of course, and fans might lose interest...

if you look at what NDSU did, this isn't dissimilar. Schedule a few games with "hey! I've heard of them!" schools, beat up a few D-II squads, and in our case, find a couple of other wandering schools to partner with to build rivalries. (oh, and it helps if you can win at Georgia Southern and Montana early ;-))

It's heartwarming to read all the kind words, especially from the JMU posters, but be honest Dukies...y'all can't wait to get hold of us in 2011 and put us in our proper place.

Oh, of course I can't wait for that. But when we have two schools joining the conference and creating teams at the same time, it's not hard to compare them and see who is doing it the right way.

Hey bobbythekidd was cruising the board over at Monarch Nation and had noticed that there are links to other forums but there isn't one to this forum. If you guys think it's worthwhile over here and can contact your board administrator over there maybe you could get them to link to this site as well. :thumb:

We can add the Monarch Nation board to the FCS Directory fan sites on this board as well I would think.

Here are the Sagarin rankings for ODU slate. ODU wound up 244th. Not bad for a bunch of athletes that have never played a game together. Looking at it this way the schedule looks a bit harder, don't ya think? (I'm looking at you BlackFalcon.)

Fordham (186)
Monmonth (199)
Presbyterian (204)
VMI (207)
Jacksonville (227)
Georgetown (230)
UNC Central (234)
Savannah St (243)
ODU (244)
Campbell (245)
