MTG is an buffoon but this isn't a valid comparison. PPP loans were meant to be forgiven if the employer maintained employment levels.

Agreed. PPP loans had to be to keep employees on the payroll (as opposed to firing them) despite the government saying you couldn't have your business open. To compare forgiving PPP loans to forgiving student loan debts is almost as intellectually dishonest as you can get. But that's assuming the people doing the comparison even have the intellectual knowledge to understand the difference.

Well, while there's some truth to that, millennials played their part in the college part. If college is too expensive, find cheaper options or other ways to pay. And use college to get a degree that gives you buying power in the future. College kids aren't excluded from the college selection process.

As for the tax rate, that's a red herring. Government tax receipts as a percentage of GDP were about 18% in 1968, and they're about 18% now. It's never been about how much we collect in taxes, it's what we do with it.

To those low-information types (like Skelly) something like PPP loans could very well just be a government throwaway to "business" and that will be enough to get them tweeting and retweeting. Details that those loans, to be forgiven, meant that people had to be kept on payrolls rather than laid off when government closed things down are unimportant and actually distracting. I was listening to NPR today while in the car and they had an interview that basically said exactly this - we forgave PPP loans, so student loans are the same thing. No other commentary, no discussion, just presenting that as fact. So regardless of it not being factual, that's how it's being sold.
