https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-sho ... TnMpEqTKRwSeveral people who were arrested last week as part of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ voter fraud crackdown were notified by official government entities they were eligible to vote, according to court documents and interviews. The defendants told authorities they had no intention of committing voter fraud, according to affidavits, and in some cases were baffled by their arrests because counties had sent them voter registration cards and approved them to vote.
Peter Washington, for example, after serving 10 years in prison, was told that he could vote after his release. The Orange County Supervisor of Elections sent him a voter registration form, he completed the paperwork and was sent a voter card from local officials. Washington later cast what he thought to be a proper ballot.
Earlier this month, DeSantis’ task force arrested him — and other former inmates who’d also been told they could legally vote. Politico’s report quoted a local lawyer who said one of the accused was arrested by a SWAT team who took the suspect to jail in his underwear, all because he’d voted two years ago.
The resulting dynamic appears indefensible:
Florida officials told these people they could vote.
They voted.
Florida officials then arrested these people.

So I take it you agree with these arrests?
Re: Ron DeSantis Declares War on Voter Fraud
Politico is a source you could have linked to, but the blog post was written with substantial bias.
I wouldn't have written the statute that way, but that's the law in Florida.

You mean besides having msnbc.com as their URL?
All you have to do is look at the first sentence of the blog post where the author inserts his opinion:
Like most blog posts, it was super lazy and only pointed out sections in the Politico piece that fit the author's bias. He didn't mention anything about the subject failing to disclose his felony conviction on the voter registration application because it obviously didn't fit the narrative.Despite a flawless, statewide elections process in 2020, Florida Republicans approved a series of new voter-suppression measures in 2021.

It’s still just borderline entrapment cloaked in a PR stunt.

It's all politics, so of course it's a PR stunt. The only difference between that and the J6 Committee is the scale.

kalm is living under the assumption that the J6 committee is/was doing the job that it was intended to do rather than performing political theater and providing fodder for the Donks.

Of course it’s political theater. And still necessary. Democracy is rough.
Oh wait…you’re comparing DeSantis to J6, aren’t you?

Re: Ron DeSantis Declares War on Voter Fraud
Of course it's necessary but it can also be argued that they've veered so far into the realm of political theater that the investigation was not the serious affair that it should have been. That's partly trump and McCarthy's fault but the Donks and never trumpers bear their share of the blame as well. Of course, a get trump at all costs person wouldn't see it that way.

Hopefully the serious investigation is going on behind the scenes because what the J6 Committee is doing is a circus.

....first-hand testimony? All by Republicans directly involved?
Not once has any of the committee members granstanded or interjected their own opinion.
I do understand your concern about believing anything said by a scumbag Republican traitor fuck that spent the last four years sucking off the guy that sucked off Putin, but you're projecting that onto the committee and it doesn't help your carefully-crafted image of impartiality.

Well I’ll go out on a limb here and suggest direct criminal investigations by the DOJ of a FPOTUS and his fundraising Pac, with grand juries, are indeed more serious than a congressional commission.

Before Obama weaponized the DoJ to go after trump I would have agreed with you. Now I don't know if such an investigation would be intended to serve justice or achieve political goals.
My lack of faith in the DoJ is a problem. I'm not a MAGAt. My lack of faith is based on reason not emotion. I don't like trump and I want him gone but it has to be done the right way and for the right reasons. I don't have faith that the J6 investigation has been done the right way or for the right reasons.

The sheer magnitude of indicting a FPOTUS is daunting as well as the political ramifications. I still think the DOJ is months ahead of us on this. They know (through tips, CI’s, turned witnesses) what they’re looking for and are building an airtight case. They have to.
