The Electoral College is not an outdated vestige of slavery. There were a number of reasons that contributed to it's forming but I don't think slavery was a top reason much less the only or primary reason.dbackjon wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2023 4:37 pmThe Electoral College is an outdated vestige of slavery. Democrats haven't given up on Democracy, they've given up on the Republic. The US is a Republic and the Senate, Electoral College, etc. are key elements that Democrats are attempting to undermine.
It will take an authoritarian government to force the America they want upon everyone else. Ever if it didn't, the big, uber-powerful federal government that Democrats desire will end up being authoritarian.
[/code]
How are the Democrats trying to undermine the Senate?
The GOP has undermined the House and state governments with extreme gerrymandering.
The GOP is 3/4 of the way to the authoritarian government already
Haven't you been paying attention? Trump and the GOP are jumping on board with mail in voting. It's en vogue now.dbackjon wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2023 4:33 pmThere is no more fraud with mail-in ballots than in-person voting. Decades of experience in Red and Blue states show that. No Valid reason? How about work, family, more time to study a ballot and all the propositions, judges, etc.BDKJMU wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 2:56 pm
I believe it makes fraud easier or more likely than in person. I know this has already been beaten to death on here, but I don't believe there's any valid reason you can't have absentee limited to excuse (out of town during election day/week, infirm, the military, etc) and everyone else vote in person (make a national holiday, have the polls open for several days), with voter ID. Heck, apparently 46 of 47 European countries require voter ID, about 3/4 don't even allow absentee, and the majority that allow absentee require voter ID for absentee. And they are suppose to be more enlightened than us..
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... -he-is-oneI can see three objections to calling a large section of the Republican party pre-fascist. The first can be dismissed with a flick of the fingers as it comes from a self-interested right that has to pretend it is not in the grip of a deep sickness – and not only in the United States. The second is the old soothing “it can’t happen here” exceptionalism of the Anglo-Saxon west, which has yet to learn that the US and UK are exceptional in the 21st century for all the wrong reasons. The third sounds intelligent but is the dumbest of all. You should not call Trump or any other leader a pre- or neo-fascist or any kind of fascist until he has gone the whole hog and transformed his society into a totalitarian war machine.
The example of the stages of cancer, so beloved by believers in Trump derangement syndrome, explains the stupidity. Imagine you are a doctor looking at pre-cancerous cells or an early-stage cancer that has not grown deeply into tissue. The door bursts open and a chorus of Fox News presenters and Cambridge dons cry that “real experts in the field” agree that on no account should you call it cancer until it has metastasised and spread through the whole body. A competent doctor would insist on calling a fatal disease by its real name and not leave treatment until it was too late to stop it. So should you.
Well done, saved me the trouble of dismissing many of those tropes.UNI88 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2023 8:18 pmThe Electoral College is not an outdated vestige of slavery. Proof that "Republicans in 90% of elections can't win the popular vote"? You made a statement, prove it without adding any qualifiers after the fact.
Trying to weaken the filibuster is undermining the Senate.
Both parties engage in gerrymandering. Take a look at Illinois and Oregon for examples of the Democratic party doing it.
Both parties are 3/4 of the way to authoritarian government.

Who announced it?
It looks like it was announced by lil' donny trumpkins ...
“The Letter only came after Donald Trump created a false expectation that he would be arrested the next day and his lawyers reportedly urged you to intervene. Neither fact is a legitimate basis for congressional inquiry,” she wrote in the letter, a copy of which was obtained by POLITICO.

I think I was saying something like this a few weeks ago.Only a third of Americans want a presidential candidate who supports severe restrictions on abortion rights and most voters oppose allowing people to carry concealed firearms without a permit, according to the poll of 4,410 adults.
Should DeSantis run, his positions on abortion and guns will likely help win support of Republican primary voters in the early months of 2024, but may hurt him with the independent and more moderate voters he would need to win, the data suggested.
And you were correct.UNI88 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 6:44 pm DeSantis agenda wins in Florida but could cost him in 2024 -Reuters/Ipsos poll

John Kasich was on MSNBC this morning. Someone like him are what the R’s, if not the whole country needs.

What a crazy, mixed up world we live in when appearing on MSNBC is a bigger problem than having 5 children with 3 different women, being accusing of sexual assault/rape 20+times, paying off a porn star to cover up an affair, cheating numerous subcontractors out of payment for their time and materials, inciting a riot and threatening more violence.
Bills/laws/policies/rulings coming out of the 3 branches of the fed govt can have an effect on my life. The past peccadilloes of a POTUS doesn't. I'd rather have an asshole like Trump who's willing to stand up and fight the left, than a Milquetoast like Kasich who will get run over and abused..UNI88 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 12:05 pmWhat a crazy, mixed up world we live in when appearing on MSNBC is a bigger problem than having 5 children with 3 different women, being accusing of sexual assault/rape 20+times, paying off a porn star to cover up an affair, cheating numerous subcontractors out of payment for their time and materials, inciting a riot and threatening more violence.

Wrong. The leak of Trump’s pemding arrest came out NYC 8 days ago (Fri, 3/17) from ‘anonymous sources’
https://www.nbcnewyork.com/investigatio ... s/4160387/Local, state, and federal law enforcement and security agencies are preparing for the possibility that former President Donald J. Trump could be indicted as early as next week, according to five senior officials familiar with the discussions.

It might have come out a day or 2 earlier, but I remeber it was Friday, 3/17 when it 1st blew up in the news. Regardless, it didn’t 1st come from Trump, who didn’t put out a truth about it until the next day, Saturday, 3/18.
