Re: 2024 Primary
Whelp, I'm not voting for Biden this time around. I'm registered Democrat in PA currently, although if the GOP primary is competitive (i.e. someone to vote for other than Trump) then I could head over there. I was fine with Biden for a term - we needed to get past the Trump vitriol, and I had hoped that Biden wouldn't do a whole heckuva lot will napping in office. Of course, that didn't come to pass, with the chaotic, leaderless withdraw from Afghanistan and then the generational blunder with inflation by going all in with Modern Monetary Theory. And on top of it I can't ignore the fact that he's not even leading the country anymore - some cabal behind him is making all the decisions and he's just parroting whatever they tell him to say. Wilson had a stroke in his second term and his wife and doctor ran interference for a year when he couldn't do the job. Voting for Biden would be like knowing that then, and if he still had a term to run for, trying to get him elected to a position he can't adequately fulfill. Just not going to do it.
And of course, I'm never ever voting for Trump. Didn't do it before when he was less crazy and maniacal, and certainly won't do it now given his deranged temperament. A Trump/Biden election last time was brutal for the country. Four years later with both guys being addled versions of their younger selves, it's worse.
I doubt the Dems will really put anyone up to challenge him. The bench on the Democratic side is almost non-existent and there's no way they want to risk losing the White House. Doesn't matter who's in it, as long as he rubber stamps things that come his way. The GOP has contenders, but whether they can stand up to and weather the Trump maelstrom is another question. We knew this was going to likely be an ugly election, but with Biden's announcement it's almost a surety to be that now.

At this point in the "race" the only announced candidate I could POSSIBLY vote for is Nikki Haley.

Re: 2024 Primary
It's a PA thing, closed primaries. Worthless to be an independent, couldn't vote until the November elections then. Basically pick a party that is the more interesting/important primary.Ibanez wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 8:16 amThis. Re: 2024 Primary
Reuters/Ipsos poll has about 1/2 saying neither Biden nor Trump should run. 34% conks saying Trump shouldn’t run. But even bigger percent of donks, 44%, saying Biden shouldn’t run.

Not sure why Newsome doesn’t jump in the race. He would WHIP demented Joe in a primary. And would have a better chance in the general.

Re: 2024 Primary
The closed primary does prevent one side from trying to sabotage the other side’s primary. Conks voting in the donk primary for the left winger who’s less electable in the general, or donks voting in the conk primary for the right winger who’s less electable in the general. We saw a # of cases of the latter just this past election in states with open primaries.

If a party wants a closed primary then the party should pay for it or reimburse the government body running the primary for the costs. Otherwise the party is just another welfare whore sucking at the government's tit.BDKJMU wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 10:34 amThe closed primary does prevent one side from trying to sabotage the other side’s primary. We need to find a way to take the nominating process away from the whacko MAGAts and wokehodists and give it back to the rational majority who are tired of the crappy candidates we've been given since 2016 and appear to be getting again in 2024.

Re: 2024 Primary
I wouldn’t necessarily be opposed to a partially open/partially closed primary where conks amd indies could vote in the conk primary, and donks and indies in the donk primary, but no conk voting in donk primary and vice versa. Aren’t there some states that do this? After all, why should conks be voting in a donk primary, and vice versa? That would prevent the sabotage, while also allowing he indies to participate in either (but not both) primaries, providing some of what you’re looking for.UNI88 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 10:50 amIf a party wants a closed primary then the party should pay for it or reimburse the government body running the primary for the costs. The Republican Party could give the American people a candidate that 61% of Americans think should not be running. That sucks but is trumped by the Democratic Party possibly giving us a candidate that 70% of Americans think should not be running.BDKJMU wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 11:48 am Latest Morning Consult poll- Trump biggest lead yet over Desantis by a whopping 37 points..

This is definitely an indictment of how are primaries are currently working.

De Santis was a flash-in-the-pan, its downhill from here for him politically. Now Florida will have a governor who will have to settle for a job he didn't want and thought it would be smart politics to pick a fight with Disney. Watch him flame out spectacularly.

De Santis just got the FL Senate to approve he can run for VP or POTUS. Before this, he would have needed to step down. Many think if he does enter the race, that will help his numbers because up to now, it was all hypothetical.houndawg wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 5:38 amBDKJMU wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 11:48 am Latest Morning Consult poll- Trump biggest lead yet over Desantis by a whopping 37 points..

Most likely. The MAGAts will move the next best (or in this case worst) alternative.
Someone should photoshop trump's face on Dr. Evil and desantis' on Mini Me.

The GOP needs a reasonable conservative (I’ve mentioned Kasich before). Every silly authoritarian law and media kerfluffle (Montana and Tennessee) further destroys the brand while simultaneously rallying the Dem base.
(I’d also give it a 50/50 chance of Tucker running)

I doubt the Dems will really put anyone up to challenge him. The bench on the Democratic side is almost non-existent and there's no way they want to risk losing the White House. Doesn't matter who's in it, as long as he rubber stamps things that come his way. The GOP has contenders, but whether they can stand up to and weather the Trump maelstrom is another question. We knew this was going to likely be an ugly election, but with Biden's announcement it's almost a surety to be that now.
