Thanks for the good laugh. If our attendance was to be just 5000, and we shared our facilities with the soccer team, and we were located in, say, Idaho, then I would surely be less optimistic. With recruiting being the most important piece of the puzzle, I think we are starting pretty high on the list for a first year program with what we have to work with to attract quality players. I think we're holding pocket Kings right now. We'll have to see how the hand plays out from here. How's that 2-7 off-suit you're holding working for you?BlackFalkin wrote:CAA Flagship wrote: I can't blame you there. I'd say the same thing if I wasn't from Old Dominion.
But you have to admit, 1st year attendance in the top 5 of all of FCS (and probably ahead of 10 or so FBS schools), new/renovated facilities, and in the heart of a recruiting hotbed has got to be someting to worry about, even though the effect won't hit for another couple of years.
So, getting nervous?
Please! Old Dominican is a horrible team... remember that! Its going to take *YEARS*, before that program gets off the ground... if it ever does. How long do you think that "loyal" fanbase is going to stick around & support a bottom-of-the-barrell CAA team untill they can find the throttle? The stadium is nice, its good they brought the program back, (and other kiss @ss remarks) BUT, the team still sucks and they are going to suck for a long time EVEN AFTER they join the CAA, so dont get ahead of yourself, guy. Having said that....... Welcome to the FCS!
Ya Bastard.....

ODU is for losers. Sure they sold out the first season, but wait for the excitement to fade and the reality of going to see Chowan lay the wood to your team sink in.
Look at the Nationals as your example of whats to come.

Yeah, I dread the day we start slumping in sports across the board. Our donations will dry up, our football ticket sales will drop, our basketball team will start only winning 5 to 6 games a season, and the fans will be down to a few hundred at best.andy7171 wrote:ODU is for losers. Serious question, why do we only play you guys once in basketball, but all the other CAA teams twice?

Being the last team in the league to secure an at-large bid, we petitioned the league to protect our RPI by not having to play Towson twice.andy7171 wrote:

Holy Christ! The ODU fans have even elevated WR's game. That last statement is the first correct I've seen him post in quite some time.

Eh my best days are most definitely behind me, I'm a one trick pony. Couple Seinfeld quotes here, girls name there, and that's abouttttt it. I'm also turning over a very non confrontational leaf. Hell it took me 324 Ted Kennedy threads to even comment.

Re: Welcome ODU Fans
The CAA basketball schedule is a little difficult to understand, and I may not have my numbers correct, but here it goes. Each school picked 3 "rival" schools that they will always play twice. Two other schools were added to the mix of playing home & home. The remainder of the schedule is sort of on a rotating basis, playing some schools twice and others once, and changing from one year to the next.andy7171 wrote:It was only a matter of time. One thing you have to learn flagship is that you NEVER and I mean NEVER post a logical and reasonable explanation to a question when one of your compatriots has put forth the effort to burn a guy so eloquently. You should have let that RPI burn simmer for at least 24 hrs.CAA Flagship wrote:The CAA basketball schedule is a little difficult to understand, and I may not have my numbers correct, but here it goes. Yeah, the RPI post was a reply well played. I'm too new to this board to come out with guns blazing. I'm just trying to offer information, and a little opinion, at this point. I'll take my shots eventually, but I don't want to start with a layup (Towson. Really????). I'd rather start with from the free throw line.

The beauty of this board is that it is mostly friendly and we are all grown ups that can take it as well as we dish it so feel free to light a fire wherever you want to. My response to you previous was a veiled attempt at taking another shot at Andy and giving some thumbs up to the new guy for a good burn. Andy is one hell of a good sport and can definitely handle himself so feel free to unload.

Re: Welcome ODU Fans
I know this is a football board but I just wanted to make a quick comment on one of Montana's sons, Blaine Taylor. He came to us via Stanford but if you have followed Montana sports going back 15 years ago you should certainly remember him. I have to tell you that he has done a tremendous job on and off the court for our program. He took over after our first ever back-to-back losing seasons (and no talent on the shelf). He is now into his 2nd generation of recruits that are producing 20+ wins a season. How he hasn't been gobbled up by a big conference school, I don't know (although I know he turned down opportunities of consideration at a few).

I'm very familiar with Blaine. I've had a beer or two with him in the past. I used to go to all the bball games back when he and Montgomery coached here. I don't know if you knew this but we also traded University Presidents back in the late 80's or early 90's so a lot of us follow ODU by proxy. Blaine did very well for us and he is a good man.CAA Flagship wrote:I know this is a football board but I just wanted to make a quick comment on one of Montana's sons, Blaine Taylor.
