So you agree… nice
Paul was the best musician but nobody carried the Beatles, all of them more than pulled their weight and were good players on their own.
Boy, it’s carry that weight

Never pulled

Paul carried the weight of John for close to 4 years

The best songs on the album - Day in the Life and Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite - are Johns and he was in from the get go. Paul was the driving force in the studio, as usual.
So you were wrong…. I’ll say it because you just won’t

I’ve already demonstrated to your Siamese twin “Being for the benifit of Mr Kite” is not all John, mostly his though

The Beatles were pretty much Paul McCartney at this point on
Nope. Group effort as was most of the songs - some more one some more the other. :coffee:

You can find interviews of John praising or dissing the same song depending on when he was asked and how he felt. Dude was an asshole but a talented one and no John no Beatles.

No John no Beatles… I agree

Also the luckiest day of John’s life was the day he met McCartney

Post Beatles Paul song
Too many People

Lyrics had messages and this little gem was for John

“You took your Lucky break and broke it in two”

John was infuriated because he assumed Paul was referring to himself as the lucky break

For the record…the Kinks were a good as the Beatles and Floyd is right there with them both at the top of British classic rock.

Cream rises to the top.

It's a matter of personal preference. The Beatles were the Taylor Swift of the time. Talented but a vanilla pop band that was easy to listen to but lacked an edge. I'd take Zeppelin or the Stones over the Beatles and Cream/Clapton over all of them.

The Who, Ten Years After - both hotter live than the Stones. The Who were the loudest band I ever heard, and the bassist played the leads

The Beatles were much more than a vanilla pop band, and a listen to any of their live cuts from after Pete Best left. I Saw Her Standing There is nothing but a tight-as-a-tick rock band flat out laying it down. If the game is who had the best chops of the time that would be Moby Grape (USA). And the only thing that made LZ special was John Bonham. Cream was innovative and cutting edge for the time but became repetitive and formulaic. :grizo1:

The Beatles had an edge? Please. Sure they had more of an edge than the Monkees but nowhere near what a lot of other bands had.

Off the top of my head I would take Pat Benatar's cover of Helter Skelter and Joe Cocker's cover of With A Little Help From My Friends over the Beatles' versions.

True, Joe Cocker owns the song even though he didn't write it - same with Hendrix and All Along the Watchtower. PBs cover is good but I like the original better.

Indeed on personal preference.

Your Swift comment cracked me up. My first boss in the golf business who’s still a great friend grew up with the Beatles. He still plays them when we’re golfing. I mentioned last year during a round of golf with my boys that prior to Revolver, the Beatles were a pop band. My friend and my oldest son (also a huge fan) still haven’t been able to let that go to this day. :)

I think Swift is a valid comparison. She's extremely talented and yugely popular. My daughter loves her music and we listen to it when we're in the car on a long drive together. I wouldn't listen to it when driving by myself but like the Beatles I don't mind listening to it if that's what someone else really wants.

Well IIRC, you’re a fan of Husker Du so you I and I realize that the pop label can be used with derision.
