I'm glad you brought this up, not that I have some Earth shattering news, but a question. When you refer to Christianity as the recycled sun god story, i get the resurrection part, but does the sun god version offer salvation as well? Totally copied?
Salvation from what? Thats where it starts getting weird - see the quote from Hwy 61 Revisited above.
Screw you. I'm too lazy. Does the egyptian sun god involve the followers of the sun go to receive eternal life? Salvation?

Well sure it is, everyone knows that. But does it pertain to your salvation? No. No one can earn their way there and no matter how hard you work, it doesn't make you "more" saved.

That was the driver of my reading the Bible question.
So accepting Jesus as your savior is > being a good person when it comes to salvation?
Not equal terms, but essentially the two are equal. You still should follow the rule of treating others as you would be treated, but we know that doesn't happen as much as it should.

You keep wanting to make it about earning your way to Heaven. What do you think the Old Testament was about? God reached out many times to come to agreements that man couldn't keep. Anyway, the point was to show that you can't do enough good to warrant salvation by yourself. Hence the Grace of the gift.

You keep doubting God and His gift.

I don’t recall me mentioning earning one’s way into heaven. Maybe it was Houndy?

Also, I’m not an atheist…at all. I do have serious questions regarding most dogmatic belief systems. Where the rubber meets the road is the idea held by some that we are a Christian nation and should be governed as such. Or in the words of the new speaker…

“This is not about the people themselves. I am a Bible-believing Christian. Someone asked me today in the media, they said, ‘… People are curious. What does Mike Johnson think about any issue under the sun?’ I said, well, go pick up a Bible off your shelf and read it – that’s my worldview. That’s what I believe and so I make no apologies for it.”

His religion isn't the issue, wanting his ancient goat-herder religion to be the official religion of the nation is the issue.

You could just ignore the official religion of the nation, just like I ignore and don’t complain about Pride month and other such nonsense …
What does the Constitution say about Pride month? :coffee:

That's why I asked if you have read the bible.

Old testament is all about how God reaches out to man for a relationship over and over and we keep stumbling. Can never uphold our end of the bargain.

New testament is about saying, "hey. You couldn't quite meet the bar in the old days. How about I provide someone that can and were good?"

The whole thing is about actions and their consequences. It teaches you we're all flawed and in this together.

I see no issue with Maga Mike making that claim. What awful decision do you think he's going to make?

So you follow the whole Bible? OT as well as NT?

Of course you don’t have an issue with Johnson. He believes the same as you and it guides his governance.

If there is a conflict between his religious beliefs and the Constitution (most likely the 1A), which will MAGAt Mike follow? Hopefully, the Constitution. If not he will have violated his oath of office.

Oh My Lord. Did you really just ask that? It's shit like this, I tell you to quit spreading your "version" of Christianity.

I have no need to follow the Old Testament. It was to prove I couldn't follow all the rules. I know that. I'll keep certain stories in mind, but rules that demonstrate my inadequacy do not govern my walk and are not needed.

What do you mean by "follow" anyway?

Now you know how I feel when calling you out on trump, Ukraine, and more. ;)

Good to know that your version of Christianity is the correct version. Hopefully you can set those heretics, Joe and 89 straight.

There is no incompatibility between Joe, 89 and my version. You can't work your way to salvation. It's a gift.

If you want to keep stating 2+2 = 5, be my guest, but you and Klam have really exposed yourselves as having only the most rudimentary understandings of Christianity. Not even close.

So where is this heaven of yours? It has to be within 2023-odd light-years of Earth, JWST should be able to locate it if we know the date, time, and place of his ascension. If he even existed, of which there is no first-hand evidence.

Recycled sun-god myth, probably Egyptian, maybe Greek. Jesus=Apollo :coffee:

Not that you don't have a right to your own belief system, of course. And thats where MAGA Mikey comes in - he subscribes to nonsense very similar to yours, but he wants his fictional bullshit to be force-fed to the entire population of the US and hopefully the world eventually. You swallow this bullshit and expect us to believe your preposterous mythology. SGeeWhiz... :ohno:

That would be Protestant, and not when it comes to the basics in that salvation is a gift and cannot be earned through works.

Now with Mormonism, there is a difference.

Except he can't be travelling at c because as Carl noted he ascended bodily, therefore he has mass, so he can approach c asymptoticly (sic) but never attain it. We just need to point the Jimmy Webb in the correct direction, right SG? You'd agree that Carl got the physics right?

Salvation can’t be earned through works?
Correct.

That's why I keep bringing up the Old Testament. Throughout the whole thing, man kept entering into new covenants with God and man could never uphold their end. It pretty much showed you that no matter what, you couldn't work your way to salvation.

Think about it. If there was some way you could calculate a person worthiness to earn salvation, where would that line be drawn? 25%. 50% of the population?

Now look what you get with a gift. Anyone and everyone is eligible. God wants fellowship with all of creation, not a subset.

But the OT was filled with crazy wasn’t it? I mean what kind of a god suggests these things to begin with?

I do want to agree though that all are eligible. Christian or not. All have god in them. Every human, at their best, is god like.

Yes, I'd agree with your statement of crazy. Thank goodness that those rules don't need to be followed any more as well. If man couldn't abide by them in the past, ain't no way we can do it now.
