Weird segue here, but as some know my middle son is currently a plebe (freshman) at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. They start with plebe summer, which is 6 weeks during the summer where it's basically boot camp as they learn how things function (or not) in the military. They aren't allowed really anything personally, no watches, no phones, no alarm clocks, etc., and they get two phone calls home during the summer. They are allowed to get mail so I just finished up a letter to him. So weird having to describe an assassination attempt to someone in letter form. I wasn't sure if they would've told all the plebes or not so I thought to at least fill him in. Weird times indeed.

Ha! He actually got into both West Point and Annapolis but in the end the Navy was his favorite and he picked that. My wife's side of the family has a lot of Marines background so I'm not sure how much that played into it.

Eh, I don't think it's a conspiracy, I think it's just a collection of gross incompetence. Heck, even trying to get a cop up to the roof to confront the shooter, it was basically a guy giving a boost to the other guy and he ended up hanging from the roof. Secret Service should get most of the blame as it's literally their job to prevent this stuff. I think I saw too that it was at least 20 seconds from the first shot before they killed the shooter - that's an incredibly long amount of time.
