Absolutely - great move by Hocker on the inside. A stunner considering how good the Brit and Norwegian are.
Great races - the 100m finish, the 10,000m race was fantastic, now this one. Track doesn't always deliver but it's doing so this year.

GD and GF: Because he's so full of himself. I don't see any other athlete at the Olympics as into himself as Duplantis is. Just look at Biles and Chiles when they won silver and bronze. People who have huge amounts of ego don't do what they did on the medal stand....

Come on, Biles has an actual GOAT necklace she wears, Noah Lyles couldn't possibly start more sentences with the word "I" while bouncing around, etc. There are plenty of examples of athletes showing off or talking/acting themselves up. It's all good, as Carl Lewis said, sports, especially T&F, need personalities.SuperHornet wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2024 5:40 pm GD and GF: Because he's so full of himself. Re: Summer Olympics
He didn't get through the first time, it was only one the second time that he did. But it wasn't that surprising, the Norwegian typically drifts wide in the homestretch. That's just Hocker doing his homework. And American middle-distance has been steadily improving as of late, there are some decent talent coming up in the ranks. Hocker's not been an unknown, national champ in high school, Oregon standout, and good pro career already by age 23. And he kicked right with Kerr from GB, and no one's really better at that than Kerr.

Re: Summer Olympics
As I expected, NBC's track coverage has been deplorable. They think track events are king, and field events are an afterthought. We lost most of the women's vault final today through NBC's fiddle-farting around with track races, commercials, and cutouts to unimportant events. Their excuse? "Oh, you can get that on Peacock." Uh, you have to PAY for that. The Olympics should be FREE. Their commentators came from track events (or IndyCar in the case of the PxP guy) and are not credible in field event commentary. Couldn't they get someone QUALIFIED for the job like Stacy Dragila or Tim Bright?

Re: Summer Olympics
Those two European guys were too busy concentrating on each other as you saw obviously and that played right into the hands of Hocker and Naguese nearly got Silver but in 4yrs they are not going to make that mistake again.I always thought Hocker was a world class 1500M guy who was a person who could catch anyone from behind if he was shouting distance he showed that to me while in college at Oregon as a freshman. When LA comes everyone is going to be after him of course.GannonFan wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 8:27 amHe didn't get through the first time, it was only one the second time that he did. Re: Summer Olympics
Yes I get your point of having to pay PEACOCK was no joke but I didn't have to worry about it.I personally enjoyed the footage of the Men& Women's High Jump there is a guy who I wished that I saw in the HJ say hello to Caleb Snowden of Arkansas Pine Bluff he was a All-American that I thought was going to make it but he didn't meet up with the standard he had a PR of 7-5.5.Be on the lookout for him in LA in '28.I was looking for VASHTI CUNNINGHAM in the women's HJ but she finished 5th her father is Randall Cunningham ex-Philadelphia Eagle.SuperHornet wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 8:43 pm As I expected, NBC's track coverage has been deplorable. Re: Summer Olympics
Final 2024 Paris Olympics Unofficial Men's Track and Field (or Athletics) scoring a la National Federation of High Schools (places 1-8 scored 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 for any given event, minus DQs like the US 440 Relay Team), as scored by me (accuracy not exactly guaranteed due to the vast number of participants in medal races and field events). The mixed races (the mixed 440 Relay, the mixed mile relay, and the mixed marathon walk relay) were not scored since they involved both genders. The blowout for the United States is crazy, but so also is the fact that 56 countries unofficially scored points under our high school system. Once one gets past, say, Great Britain or Italy, there's lots of parity out there, which is always good for sport.

The Men's 4x4 was super exciting with Botswana and Great Britain both establishing CONTINENT RECORDS in this event chasing Uncle Sam in the process.

Re: Summer Olympics
Luckily, the handoff of the baton is far simpler in the 4x4 rather than the 4x1. 5 straight Olympics now for the US, with by far the best 4x1 teams, and not a single medal. Amazing and almost impossible to do.

Re: Summer Olympics
I wonder how many opt for the "just wait for the oncoming guy" method vice the blind method. The blind method invites SO many opportunities for disaster when a team is just slapped together at the last minute....

Botswana is no joke they are going to be out for payback after losing their chances at a Gold Medal and I saw a iconic shot of TEBOGO in the background looking at BENJAMIN winning the 4x4.Hollywood is going to be out in FULL FORCE when The Summer Olympics arrive.

Interesting that in the next Olympics, because of some snafu with the opening ceremonies also using SoFi, the track and field events will largely be in the first week and the swimming events will be in the second week - flipping what's normally done.dal4018 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 8:28 amBotswana is no joke they are going to be out for payback after losing their chances at a Gold Medal and I saw a iconic shot of TEBOGO in the background looking at BENJAMIN winning the 4x4.Hollywood is going to be out in FULL FORCE when The Summer Olympics arrive.
