I am curious how you apply "focused protection to the elderly instead of bringing COVID into their nursing homes". Does that mean that nursing home employees have to be quarantined and can't stay with or see friends and family? If they can, are they quarantining nursing home employees plus the friends and family? Where does it stop? Or would it be a nursing home version of Lord of the Flies where no outsiders are allowed to enter and they have to take care of themselves? Inquiring minds want to know the details of how this solution that appears simple but really isn't would work.

The nursing home fiasco (at least the one in NY) was a huge mistake.

The other extreme is an potentially exposed worker going to a party, wedding, any social gathering at the heart of the pandemic where people were not socially distancing and not testing before or after and then heading to work in the home the next day.

So indeed, it’s not simple.

The saddest part of Covid other than the millions who died or are still experiencing issues associated with it, was the self centered lack of community and sacrificing normalcy for a period of time in order to lesson the illnesses and come out of it quicker.

We could have done much better and in a perfect world we wouldn’t need government mandates as enough people would do the right thing.

That’s not the America we have been in. Hopefully it changes for things beyond Covid.

You chose to follow one metric (deaths) and not the other (%) in regards to COVID.

Pick the other metric (%) and one sees COVID was only slightly worse than a bad cold and flu season with age being the biggest factor in deaths, so the vast majority were not at risk.

Lockdowns don't work for a respiratory pandemic. That's been documented for years. Maybe if the people you supported had applied focused protection to the elderly instead of bringing COVID into their nursing homes, we'd have seen that level of care you want to see. This was all over a metric and you were a medical fascist.

I do not send my kids to school with the flu. In fact I'm certain my son makes up fake illnesses and I still don't send him to school. He self isolates like every responsible person should do. We do not force our neighborhood into lockdown just to protect my son and stop the spread. We've contained it at the house level. Also Sweden.

All my children are fully vaccinated. Some I would have preferred they not have been required to take, but all have pretty decent risk/reward profiles. The COVID vaccine's rewards were only for a small fraction of the population. Outside that small demographic, it was far more risk than reward. They did not stop the spread.

I didn’t dig it up. It was an accident after looking a new post from UNI.

But since you insist, how big was the fraction of the public, does it include those with long haul covid and/or long term organ damage who were healthy before?
