Makes sense. Massive pay raise even if he’s a position coach.
Per Stanford, Thompson signed on to be Assistant HC/co-DC/ILB Coach. That combo should result in a raise....
Stanford had just fired Mark D'Onofrio as ILB Coach....
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
The Fighting Hawks went with Eric Schmidt, who was San Diego State's defensive coordinator this season. He was NoDak's DC from 2014-19 (the first 6 Schweigert seasons). This is an underwhelming hire, IMO, since I thought they'd break from the Schweigert era, and his defense at SDSU was not good this past season (they went 3-9 and allowed 29.6 ppg and 421 ypg).
The Beacons hired DIII Marietta head coach Andy Waddle to be their new football leader. Waddle only went 55-61 in 12 seasons with the Pioneers, but they were 47-28 over the last 8 years.
Lynch was an assistant at Ball State the last 9 seasons, and he was the OC for the last 5. His entire 20-year playing & coaching career has been within the state of Indiana.
One day after his season ended in Bozeman, Idaho head coach Jason Eck has taken the job at New Mexico (another school MSU beat this season). Eck went 26-13 in 3 seasons with the Vandals, taking them to the playoffs all 3 years.

Mark Farley will retire at Northern Iowa after 24 seasons when this year concludes. His record with the Panthers stands at 181-109 with 2 games remaining. Farley won double-digit games in 7 of his first 11 seasons (including a title-game appearance in 2005), but only once since (2019). He also hasn't won more than 6 games in a season since COVID started.
Rumors today of interviews at both Norfolk State (VA) and Sac State (CA) for Michael Vick.
From a Sac perspective, this comes across as a bit of a red herring. Vick has no coaching experience on any level outside of a 2017 Chiefs internship. For both teams, it has the feel of a Neon-style carpetbagging trip. (Remember what he did to Jackson State?) I'm also reminded of what Damon Stoudamire did to UOP's men's basketball team, signing in 2016 and then bolting for the Celtics in 2021 before heading to GA Tech last year. I don't like the ramifications of this for EITHER Norfolk OR Sac.
Nobody on the Sac board wants the guys I want, but I'm fairly certain that they wouldn't disrupt things in a carpetbag fashion a la Neon, as Vick is likely to do.
SH's Picks
1. Angus McClure, Offensive Analyst, Kansas (former Sac OL Coach)
2. Jon Osterhout, HC, American River College (former Sac OL, 10+ years in JC playoffs/bowls)
3. Mike Canales, OC, Southeastern A/G (2x OC S. Florida, 2x Interim HC N. Texas, developed Phillip Rivers at NC State)

Michael Vick has no coaching experience, no charisma, no apparent connection to California, and he murdered dogs. Other than that, what's not to like?

Sac gets UNLV OC (forgot his name) as their next HC.
Brennan Marion.
And Norfolk apparently hired Michael Vick (no official announcement from the school yet). Still a stupid hire, but Norfolk makes more sense than Sac since Vick is at least from the Hampton Roads area.
While this is light years better than Vick, I'm still not happy. I'm not entirely comfortable with wide-open offenses. The danger of frequent three-and-outs is always a threat....

No one will be complaining about the hire of Vick at NSU
Ford was an assistant at Oregon State this year, and he was an assistant at Idaho the previous 2 years. He also went 2-18 as the head coach of the now defunct Simon Fraser football program from 2018-19 (SFU didn't win more than 1 game in any of their last 7 seasons).

I retract what I said about frequent three-and-outs. While Marion's offense IS based on the spread, I saw a video today filmed while he was introducing it at a winter semester offense installation class at B&M a few years back in which he stated that his offense is essentially ground Chuck. While the spread formations will likely throw me off, we're NOT likely to see three incompletes and a punt. That will be a nice change of pace from the last couple of years....

I'm not seeing any news stories to back this, but SacBuzz is abuzz that the Marion deal isn't happening, which is odd given that UNLV papers were all over Marion leaving the program before their bowl game because he'd allegedly been hired.
Some of the guys are relieved because he seems to be a vagabond of sorts.

It's now sounding like he is going to be hired… I think?
I'm not sure what's going on, Venus. There's been some discussion about Davidson's reliability. I think our community sees NBC3 Sports Anchor Michelle Dapper as more "on the ball," so to speak, than Davidson. That said, for Marion's sake I hope this works out. The LV-based reports I've seen indicate that he may have already resigned; this is not the economy to step out into nothing. If you resign your job, you had BETTER already have a new one in place....

This is the only mention of it. The school certainly hasn't said a word yet....
