Well considering we shuffled three QBs through the first half when we are still looking at finding a starter, we learned quite a bit. And RE: Last year, we opened on the road at Cal Poly, a top 25 FCS team.....

Three QB's? I thought the situation was between Roper and Selle. Did I miss something? Someone else look awesome in the fall?

the griz haven't scheduled a FBS team since they go their asses handed to them @ Iowa in '06.

Because explaining away an asswhooping by a BCS team is easier than explaining away an asswhooping by an FCS team.

SUU has been one of our worst cupcakes. Central Washington would beat them consistently.

The comments here criticizing Montana scheduling posture are justified. It is only about money and until fans quit going to these cupcake games, they will continue, because the football program is the cash cow for the University. Fan preference or pride, team improvement or improved program exposure are not considerations when more money can be made with these games.

When challenged on this issue during a halftime interview last week, UM AD Jim O'Day said he won't even entertain OOC road games without the discussion starting at $500M, since he can make more than that on cupcake home games. Under pressure, however, they have signed home and homes with Appy St, McNeese and North Dakota off into the future. But undoubtedly, the other OOC games each year will wind up being cupcake home games with any desperate team willing to bus to Missoula for $50M. Montana sells in excess of 19M season tickets, which means most of the seats to these games are already sold. Don't hold your breath that it will get any better.

I checked the box score before I posted that, the one from ESPN said 24-7 to start the 4th.

You should check the scoring summary. Montana scored with 6:44 remaining in the third qurarter to make the score 17-7 (pass to Eric Allen from Josh Swogger - with broken hand). I was at the game. Our defense held up well until worn down by two many 3 and outs from a new QB to the system. Our OL was badly overmatched; our D was not. Their defense had speed we don't see in our normal scheduling. Later in the qurarter, Iowa scored to make it 24-7.

I think we're arguing in agreement, it was 17-7 in the 3rd quarter, then 24-7 soon after.

Montana doesn't play FBS games because every home game they make a half a million dollars and the university doesn't give athletics any money except $100 of every studets tutition.
