Leaders from Poland, Estonia, and Finland have in the last week added to growing calls to liquidate Russian central bank reserves, which have been valued between $200 billion and $300 billion.

Russian central bank reserves located in Europe—including currency, gold, and government bonds—were seized as part of wide-ranging sanctions against the country when Russia launched its February 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

If the US pulls aid, the EU could use russian funds to help Ukraine defend themselves from russia. The irony would be rich and putin would rage.

• excluding one of the central parties to the dispute (Ukraine) and a group of parties that will be expected to contribute financially and possibly with manpower to a solution (European nations).

Ukraine does not have to agree to whatever trump negotiates with putin (fortunately, Europe has $200-300 billion in russian funds that can be confiscated to help fund either Ukrainian defense or rebuilding). They need to be a part of the process and territorial concessions and NATO membership are chits that should be used not given away.
