‘Fire Elon, save Elmo’: Democrats mock Republican hysteria over PBS and NPR in DOGE committee hearing

Image
“Has Miss Piggy ever been caught trying to funnel billions of dollars in government contracts to herself and her companies?” he said. “How about Arthur the Aardvark? Has he ever fired government watchdogs investigating his companies? … Maybe you’re trying to defund NPR because they expose this type of corruption.”
...
But you will not see Elon Musk being grilled by this committee,” he said. “I’ve seen a lot but pointing the finger at Elmo to cover for Elon Musk might be a new low for Marjorie Taylor Greene’s committee.”
...
During the hearing, Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett criticized Republicans on the committee for grilling public media for coverage they don’t agree with while failing to hold any oversight hearings for Musk’s DOGE team.

“Free speech is not about whatever it is you want somebody to say. The idea that you want to shut down everybody that is not Fox News is bull****,” she said. “You don’t want to hear the opinions of anybody else.”

Officials captured the 24-year-old suspect in Woodbridge, Virginia, just south of Washington, D.C. Authorities have yet to release the suspect's name, but they say he is one of the top three leaders of the MS-13 gang in the U.S.

Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel watched the arrest unfold from a nearby tactical operations center. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche and senior DOJ official Emil Bove were also present….

….The operation included the FBI joined by the Prince William County Police Department, ATF, ICE, and the Virginia State Police….

…..The FBI has arrested three individuals on its top 10 most wanted list in the past two months alon……

Alaskan Tribes ‘Applaud’ Trump Admin Revoking ‘Deeply Flawed’ Biden Admin Energy Policy

Alaska Natives celebrated the Department of the Interior’s (DOI) decision to reinstate leasing and expansion for Alaska’s oil and gas, community leaders told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

DOI announced Thursday that DOI Secretary Doug Burgum is “taking immediate steps to unleash Alaska’s untapped natural resource potential and support President Donald Trump’s vision of American Energy Dominance,” through reopening oil drilling in areas that the Biden administration had previously moved to shut down. Native community leaders in Alaska told the DCNF that the DOI under the Trump administration has taken a step in a “favorable” direction

What DOGE is doing is inefficient. I can understand if they took a few months to figure out which areas of the government are inefficient, what the economic effects of cutting people will be, which departments to reduce, which departments to add to, etc. But that's not happening.

For example, I have a friend doing military research at the NIH. His research is functionally stalled. Prior to DOGE, he had graduate students doing the grunt work and an administrator dealing with ordering supplies, filing, sending contracts, etc. His department also had multiple nurses which they shared among different researchers, and multiple technicians running equipment.

He could focus on the science itself.

He lost ALL of his graduate staff. He lost his administrator. His department lost all but one nurse and one technician so they have to share them. His research - again, with military implications - is snailing along but instead of one year, it might take a decade now.

Agree, they should just cut the waste and make sure they don't cut the areas that are not government waste.

The media doesn't help, CNN makes it sound like no cut government spending is waste, FOX makes it sound like all the cuts were waste. The social media server farms are magnifying both sides.

I like the concept of an organization that advises about government efficiency. I think most Americans would agree.

But what DOGE is doing is inefficient and illegal.

The way I look at it is the biggest reason Musk is doing this is because he doesn’t want the United States to go bankrupt. Obviously he has financial interest in the USA remaining solvent

The debt is real, politicians were never going to address the out of control spending because almost all of em want to be re-elected

Enter Elon Musk who is not a politician … he is exactly what we needed. The violence from the left is nonsensical

Sure their will be pain for those that lose their jobs and a lot of this appears “mean” but its really about the next generation. Pretty remarkable what DOGE is doing and long overdue

Because you're projecting.

If trump and musk were worried about the debt there would be no talk of extending trump's tax cuts, doge stimulus checks, etc. Every penny saved would go toward reducing the debt.

Trump continuing his tax plan is a another reason we have DOGE

Tells me that at least they have recognized the national debt as a problem, they want Americans to have their cake and eat it too.

The alternative was to elect clueless Biden or crumbella and let them continue to run the country into the ground

The debt will only get magnified when we're in another recession due to Trump and DOGE's fiscal irresponsibility.
We've already lost tens of billions in export and tourism dollars so far.

If debt is a concern, how does a trade war help our current situation? He’s pissed off practically all of our strongest trade partners.

Will enjoy the failed spin responses to this.
Canada’s prime minister has said the era of deep ties with the US “is over”, as governments from Tokyo to Berlin to Paris sharply criticised Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs on car imports, with some threatening retaliatory action.

Mark Carney warned Canadians that Trump had permanently altered relations and that, regardless of any future trade deals, there would be “no turning back”.

He told reporters: “The old relationship we had with the United States based on deepening integration of our economies and tight security and military cooperation is over.”

The prime minister called Trump’s car tariffs “unjustified”, and said they were in breach of existing trade deals between the countries.

Carney said he would speak to provincial premiers and business leaders on Friday to discuss a coordinated response, with retaliatory measures expected next week.

“Our response to these latest tariffs is to fight, is to protect, is to build,” Carney said. “We will fight the US tariffs with retaliatory trade actions of our own that will have maximum impact in the United States and minimum impacts here in Canada.”

Trump announced on Wednesday that he would impose a 25% tariff on cars and car parts shipped to the US from 3 April in a move experts have predicted is likely to depress production, drive up prices and fuel a global trade war.

The US imported almost $475bn (£367bn) worth of cars last year, mostly from Mexico, Japan, South Korea, Canada and Germany. European carmakers alone sold more than 750,000 vehicles to American drivers.…

One option for Canada is to impose excise duties on exports of oil, potash and other commodities. “Nothing is off the table to defend our workers and our country,” said Carney, who added that the old economic and security relationship between Canada and the US was over.

Voter fraud has been proven time and again to be rare. Remember when state's rights were a rallying cry from conservatives? Are there any conservatives remaining in the Republican Party?
After years of President Donald Trump claiming the 2020 presidential election was rigged, he signed an executive order Tuesday that would reshape future voting and force major changes to Washington state’s elections.

But Washington Attorney General Nick Brown suggested the state would challenge Trump’s declaration.

Trump’s order would require documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections and demands that all ballots be received by Election Day.

The order also warns that the government could withhold funding from states if they do not comply.

“We have to be very careful with the ballots. The ballots – that’s a whole big scam. You know, they found, I understand, eight ballots in a waste paper basket in some location. And they found – it was reported in one of the newspapers that they found a lot of ballots in a river. They throw them out if they have the name “Trump” on it, I guess. But they had ballots,” Trump said in a September 2020 interview.

Brown said the executive order is not valid.

“We are not going to take advice on election integrity from a guy who can’t stop lying about his 2020 election loss,” Brown said. “We have a secure and fair election system that respects voters’ rights, and we will use every tool we have to protect that.”

An example of why you don‘t want taxpayers paying the fed govt to then have $$$$ sent back to the states with strings attached. A colossal waste of $$$.
Jon Stewart got a harsh lesson on government inefficiency in a now-viral video in which journalist Ezra Klein carefully explained the grueling process of applying for funding under former President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better plan.

The pair spoke in particular about a $42 billion national program to invest in broadband under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which Biden signed into law in November 2021.

Klein points out that well over three years after the fact, the results were just shy of spectacular. A massive $42 billion program was launched, and nary a person was connected to the Internet.

"By the end of 2024, three (of 56 states and jurisdictions that applied) have gotten to the end of the process," Klein explained. "They were trying."

"End of the process, meaning they've actioned it? They've built it?" a hopeful Stewart replies.

"No, no, of course not. I didn't mean they built it, John. Sorry, I confused you," Klein replied. "They just got to the point where, in theory, they could get the money to build it."

What follows is Klein's reasonably detailed explanation of the absurd 14-step process for applying for broadband expansion funding...
