Big Sky Predictions 9-6

Post by JALMOND »

Everyone plays this time around in the conference and with 12 games, a perfect week will be tough. One game on Friday and the rest on Saturday. Some intriguing matchups this weekend as well. After week 1 I am at 11-2 for the year. A perfect week would be great but with 12 games on tap, it might be a big daunting. Here are my predictions for this week's games.

EWU at Boise State (FBS Mtn West)---The Eagles looked good on the road last weekend against a team slated to be near the top of the FCS ranks. They have a Friday game this weekend against one of the darlings in the FBS. Can they get enough plays to make this a tight contest?...Boise State 35, EWU 21.

UNC at Colorado State (FBS Mtn West)---The Bears looked good for one quarter against a lower division opponent, and they now head next door to play their bigger brothers at the FBS level. They may realize one good quarter against the DII means nothing against the shrewd play of the FBS...Colorado State 35, UNC 7.

SAC at Nevada (FBS Mtn West)---The Hornets are coming off an impressive showing on the road against one of the top teams in all of FCS. They are back on the road this weekend, playing an average FBS team. If they still harbor thoughts of moving up, this game could be a good test...Nevada 28, SAC 22.

ISU at New Mexico (FBS Mtn West)---The Bengals looked really good against another Mountain West team and they return to that conference this week. However, they did not look so well last week in their return to the FCS. Can they get an FBS scalp here like they almost did before?...New Mexico 28, ISU 10.

St Thomas (FCS Pioneer) at UI---The Vandals came charging back against their bigger neighbors and almost stole the game last week. They head home, back across the border, to face a team from the Pioneer League. This one shouldn't give them much trouble, not like last week...UI 45, St. Thomas 20.

South Dakota State (FCS Missouri Valley) at MSU---In one of the bigger games nationally in the FCS this weekend, the Bobcats welcome one of the top schools in the Missouri Valley. The Bobcats, fresh from the licking they took at the hands of Oregon last week, hope to rebound in this game...South Dakota State 21, MSU 17.

Utah Tech (FCS United) at NAU---Fresh from going toe to toe with their bigger brothers down south, the Lumberjacks bring in an FCS school to their cozy abode. While the game last week was really never in doubt, they kept things interesting. This should be more interesting...NAU 41, Utah Tech 20.

CP at Utah (FBS Big 12)---The Mustangs actually looked like a decent FCS team last week on the road, something that they couldn't really say in years past. Maybe they turned a corner? Maybe so, but this week is a tough team from the FBS, once again on the road. A tough test for sure...Utah 41, CP 21.

PSU at North Dakota (FCS Missouri Valley)---Talk about a slow start. The Vikings still are looking for some semblance of an FCS team. They need a quarterback, they need an offense, they need a defense. And this week's opponent is upset over a scalp they should have had...North Dakota 51, PSU 7.

Central Washington (DII) at UM---This is the first game of the season for the Grizzlies and it is against a strong DII program. Yes, a strong DII program. Things will get more difficult as the season goes on, but for now the Grizzlies have to play who is in front of them...UM 45, Central Washington 10.

WSU at Arizona (FBS Big 12)---The Wildcats certainly didn't look too great, flying across the country last week. They come back to the West this week, but still get a tough road matchup against the FBS. Maybe this one will be different and they can remain competitive...Arizona 31, WSU 10.

UCD at Washington (FBS Big 10)---The Aggies got a strong road win last week against the FCS, but this time they have to move up to the Big 10 for a tough matchup. Looking good in two FCS contests, it will take a lot to get a win here, even against a lower Big 10 team...Washington 35, UCD 21.

Boise State d. E. Washington 42-6
CO State d. N. Colorado 72-0
Nevada d. Sac State 42-13 (I'd like to win the Battle of McClure, but until the Go Go gets out of the Land of No Va [why the Chevy Nova didn't sell in Central America], I don't see it happening.)
New Mexico d. ID State 21-20
St. Thomas (MN) d. Idalol 35-21
SD State d. MT State 27-24
N. Arizona d. UT Tech 24-3
Utah d. Cow Poly 49-10
North Dakota d. Portland State 45-16
Montana d. C. Washington 56-14
Arizona d. BBQ 38-24
Manure Pile d. Washington 21-17 (This one hurts.)

EWU 21-49 BoiseThe Broncos looked bad last week, but I can't imagine they're "lose to Eastern Washington" bad

Portland St. 17-45 NoDakI don't know if the Fighting Hawks are good, but I do know the Vikings suck

Calol Poly 7-48 UtahEven if the 'Stangs are improved, they can't possibly make this game competitive

Davis 10-38 UDubThe Aggies gave up 6 sacks to Utah Tech last week :?

Sac State 17-27 NevadaI picked the Hornets to win this one in the preseason, but their offense apparently needs a lot more work

St. Thomas 13-34 IdahoThe Pioneer League actually showed some teeth last week, so the Vandals have to at least show up

Idaho St. 24-41 New MexicoThe Bengals just can't quit Jason Eck

Weber 3-38 ArizonaFun Fact! Weber only plays one home game before mid-October

Utah Tech 13-42 NAUThe Blazers played Davis surprisingly close, but I suspect that was more about Davis struggling than Tech being decent

CDub 13-40 MontanaFun Fact! The last year the Griz had a Week 1 bye, they only beat Central Washington by 3

SoDak State 20-24 Montana St.Tough call, but the Bobcats haven't lost a regular-season home game since 2019

NoCo 17-38 Colorado St.This is the same score as last year's meeting, so… why not?

What do you know, a perfect week, although a few were shaky. Puts me at 23-2 so far.
