They’re a monopolistic arm of the conservative movement. Owning the libs is more important than the open exchange of ideas. Ironically, this dishonors what Charlie Kirk was about.

The Nexstar - Tegna merger would cover 80% of US households.

If you think that’s ok, turn in your capitalism card.

That's not technically accurate. They may have the reach to 80% of US households, but that's not exclusive. By that measure, they can reach 80% of households, the next closest can reach 70%, and so on. The cap there isn't 100% so the number you're using is misleading.

By the way the FCC calculates ownership share (a method that long predates Trump or any of the shenanigans he could be doing), companies are capped at 39% share (using the UHF discount) as dictated by Congress like 20 years ago. Nexstar is at 38% today, and assuming it's just straight math to add Tegna (and nothing appears to be straight math in this regard) it would increase to 63%. I certainly think a good argument can be made to block the merger (and less good arguments for the merger), but it's not the 80% number you cite that will be talked about.

That’s the number that’s being pointed out by the media. I recognize these aren’t hard and fast numbers.

I'm finding more and more that people just genuinely don't have a clue what they're saying and just report whatever they want. At least when we were censoring Facebook and the like you could feel a little more sure of what you saw there, but now it's just filled with fake stuff and stories. Twitter the same way. It's just the wild wild west now in the newsworld. It's like a time machine to the glory days of yellow journalism in the late 19th century. :coffee:

I’ve heard the 80% number used primarily on cable news and YouTube shows. I can’t speak for everyone else.

It’s also up to the consumer to apply critical thinking skills and cynicism towards information. It’s always been thus. :coffee:

Sure it is, but it's certainly been harder most recently to do that. We had a golden era of journalism in the 1960's to 1990's or so of some very reliable (for the most part, exceptions certainly) journalism. That's gone now, and we're back in a regular period of misinformation and it's up to the consumer to figure it out. As your passing on of the 80% number shows, that's not an expectation that will be met very often, if at all.

This a political forum on a football message board and I’m not a journalist. I’m fine with being corrected but the general point still stands even if the number is lower.

And there is still a ton of great journalism out there. There’s just more crap to wade through if you expose yourself to it.

Do elaborate.
The pending merger between Nexstar and Tegna.

The Kimmel previously denounced the violence and paid condolences to the family.

The innocuous nature of a political joke that was not demeaning to Kirk. (IE a nothing burger)

The threats from Carr and Trump to go after opposing critics in the near future.

This had to do with big government control than offensive remarks amidst further monopolization of the media via kissing Trump’s ass.
LoL it wasn‘t a joke. Kimmel is either one of the biggest morons on TV, or he flat out lied, by insinuating the shooter was a right winger.

SCOTUS this year ruled 6-3 setting a very high bar to prove that, a ruling that libs cheered. Well, well, well, what’s good for the goose.. :coffee:

That would mean that anyone who insinuated that Melissa Hortman's assassin was a left winger was a big moron or flat out lied, including:
- Donald Trump Jr.
- Senator Mike Lee
- Senator Bernie Moreno
- Representative Derrick Van Orden
- Former Governor Scott Walker
- Laura Loomer
- Mike Cernovich
- Collin Rugg
- Alec Lace

Did anyone on this board??? Did you BDK?

Huh? What are you two even arguing about? Of course babies aren't born conservative or liberal - that's just stupid trying to assign a political ideology to little humans that can't even talk yet. And humans aren't born to be cooperative, sharing, and kind - that all comes with growing up and being taught those things. For every baby that gladly hands a toy to another baby to enjoy, there's another baby who tries to pull that toy away from that baby and makes it cry. Goodness needs to be taught.

I think you’re a little confused here. Nature doesn’t care about ideology either. Yet cooperation, sharing, heck even democracy are seen in nature. Cooperation and sharing played a massive role in the development of the human race. That’s undeniable.

If they happen to be liberal ideals, so be it.

You also see violence and death and greed in nature too. And competition and conflict played a massive role in the development of the human race too. Heck, almost every nation on the Earth today is the result of one group of people winning out over another group of people, at least once. That's undeniable.

Kimmel is for the open exchange of ideas? :ohno: Makes perfect sense. Allow a partisan hack to keep spewing his hatred because Kirk would have wanted it. The customers of Kimmel, the people, showed they don't give a crap about his partisanship due to his abysmal rating in important demographics.

They’re a monopolistic arm of the conservative movement. Owning the libs is more important than the open exchange of ideas. Ironically, this dishonors what Charlie Kirk was about.
Kimmel is allowed to say really whatever he wants to say (within the actual boundaries of free speech). Eventually his show will likely leave broadcast tv (probably at the end of his contract in January anyway) because people don't really watch broadcast tv anymore. If he has a real following, I'm sure he can continue his show in some streaming situation or something like that. But we didn't need nor want a President, like Trump did, push for that show, or any show, to be removed because of the words Kimmel used.
