Isn't the government shut down? Where is the money coming from?

Has this been approved by the National Capital Planning Commission?

Have all of the appropriate rules, regulations and processes been followed?

For a guy who says he's not a king he sure likes to act like he can do whatever he wants regardless of what the rules or the law says.
The East wing was added by FDR.

From PBS

No approval has been given.

Trump says the project will be paid for with private donations and that no public money will be spent on the ballroom. The White House promised to release information on which individuals and corporations have pledged or donated money and invited some of the donors to an East Room dinner last week, but has not released a comprehensive list and breakdown of funds.
The White House is a building that has been changed over time. No problem with that. These changes are significant and there is a process to be followed. It's fair to ask if trump is following that process and getting the required approvals.

The sad part of this is that they have an audience that already believes and likes the same things. I sat at a Navy football game the day Hegseth was there last month, and I was actually amazed at the number of people around me 1) who were really excited he was there 2) who tried to get pictures with him and were thrilled to do so and 3) almost exclusively used the Secretary of War naming. It was eye opening, these folks really, honestly like Hegseth and like what he's doing. And the problem is, there is a kernel of truth to why they like him. Hegseth was absolutely right that military recruitment had been faltering, and the Dems need to own some of that. And since the new administration has taken over, military recruitment has increased. The other truth kernel is that we had been lowering physical standards for too many in the military. And that I saw with my own eyes - I went to a morning workout session at the end of plebe summer at the Naval academy and I was shocked that a good 250-300 midshipmen, out of a class of 1100, were rated as not fit for duty and were excused from the workout (they had an alternate workout in the pool if they were able). Matching the required fitness level to the actual job (e.g. combat roles) is still important, there's no need to over specify that. But there are certainly too many people that don't meet even the lowest standards and that probably did have to change. Of course, these are just kernels of actual truth, and Hegseth's mode of operation is to take a truth and then stretch it way past that to also include his own biases of sexism, racism, etc. Hopefully he goes away before he causes too much damage.

Re: Proposed Construction of White House Ballroom

Mr. Scharf, Ms. Bowron, and Ms. Tsien,

The National Trust for Historic Preservation in the United States (“National Trust”) is a private charitable, educational, nonprofit corporation headquartered in Washington, D.C. and chartered by Congress in 1949 to further the historic preservation policy of the United States. 54 U.S.C. § 312102(a). This Congressional charter obligates the National Trust to “facilitate public participation in the preservation of sites, buildings, and objects of national significance or interest.” Our mission is to protect America’s significant historic sites and to advocate for historic preservation as a core public value.

President Trump has proposed the construction of a 90,000-square-foot ballroom on the east side of the White House campus, adjacent to the historic Treasury Building. Site preparation is already underway, including the demolition of a portion of the existing East Wing.

While the National Trust acknowledges the utility of a larger meeting space at the White House, we are deeply concerned that the massing and height of the proposed new construction will overwhelm the White House itself—it is 55,000 square feet—and may also permanently disrupt the carefully balanced classical design of the White House with its two smaller, and lower, East and West Wings. The federally recognized Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation offer clear guidance for construction projects affecting historic properties. The Standards provide that new additions should not destroy the historic fabric of the property and that the new work should be compatible with existing massing, size, scale, and architectural features.

Owned by the American people, the White House was designed by Irish architect James Hoban, whose winning proposal was selected by President George Washington. The building respects Georgian and neoclassical principles. It is a National Historic Landmark, a National Park, and a globally recognized symbol of our nation’s ideals.

We respectfully urge the Administration and the National Park Service to pause demolition until plans for the proposed ballroom go through the legally required public review processes, including consultation and review by the National Capital Planning Commission and the Commission of Fine Arts, and to invite comment from the public. These processes provide a crucial opportunity for transparency and broad engagement—values that have guided preservation of the White House under every administration going back to the public competition in 1792 that produced the building’s original design. Doing so will help ensure that the project both honors the exceptional historic significance of the White House and acknowledges the investment that the American people have in the preservation of this beloved place.

The National Trust stands ready to assist the White House, the National Park Service, and relevant review agencies in exploring design alternatives and modifications that would accomplish the objectives of the Administration while preserving the historic integrity and symbolism of the People’s House.

As we approach the 250th Anniversary of our country’s founding, the preservation of historic places that represent our nation’s history has never been more relevant or important. We urge you to take into account the deep reverence that all Americans hold for this iconic place, and to initiate the review process that can ensure the preservation of the historic White House for future generations.

Sincerely,

Dr. Carol Quillen
President and Chief Executive Officer

The sad part of this is that the military had a very small audience, the flag officers, who needed to get in line with Joe Bozo Bidens sick radicals, so they wouldn’t face reprisal.
Everybody in the military was afraid to speak their mind due to the radical politics that were filtering down from the top You would have to be somewhat new to the military or not even in the military to not realize the number of people
who really were not excited Biden was there

Thank goodness that idiot Biden is gone before he caused any more damage

'Largest bust this century' eliminates illegal drug epicenter in Philadelphia

The FBI and federal prosecutors on Friday announced a "historic" indictment charging 33 alleged members of the Weymouth Street Drug Trafficking Organization accused of fueling Kensington’s open-air drug market for nearly a decade.

Officials said 24 defendants were arrested in coordinated operations Friday, eight were already in custody, and one remains at large. Authorities executed 11 federal search warrants, and results are pending.

At a Philadelphia news conference, FBI Director Kash Patel called the operation a model for reclaiming violent corridors from crews, praising years of collaboration between the FBI, Philadelphia Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

"Today, even more criminals are off the streets because of the diligent work of the FBI and our partners," FBI Director Kash Patel told Fox News Digital in an exclusive statement.

"Over 30 people have been charged for their alleged role in drug trafficking and dozens of other offenses. These individuals were charged with distributing fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine on one of the most prolific drug blocks in Philadelphia. They were members of a violent drug trafficking organization and used violence to enforce their territory and sell drugs that poison our city streets and community. The FBI will continue our work to put an end to drug trafficking and violence in our cities.“..
