I'm not a centrist and being one isn't a fault either. I take liberally (no pun intended) from the best ideas on either side of the aisle, so, depending on the issue, I could swing right or left. So I'm a swinger (pun intended this time). As for being an engineer, they're already cooler than your typical scientist. But even among engineers I'm one of the cooler ones. It's a wide spectrum. :coffee:

Minnesota Officials Admit Noncitizens Could Vote With State IDs
A 2023 law granting driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants reignites debate over election integrity as officials confirm the IDs could be used at the polls.
Key Points

State election officials acknowledged noncitizens with valid Minnesota driver’s licenses could vote under current laws, as confirmed during the October 14, 2025, House Fraud Committee hearing.
The 2023 'Driver’s License for All' law allows all Minnesota residents, regardless of immigration status, to obtain driver’s licenses, raising concerns about election integrity.

Exactly. Des Moines school district hired as their superintendent an illegal immigrant with a criminal record with a fake academic background who was also registered to vote.

Don’t need yet another Fed holiday. Move elections day to it to Veterans Day. Election day falls between 11/1-11/7. Vet’s Day always 11/11.

And like almost all of Europe besides voter id no absentee/mail in unless:
-military
-infirm
-away from home
Where you apply beforehand for the absentee ballot.

No early voting.

Like used to have in most states.

I'm fine with making it a Federal holiday, but I could get behind making it 11/11 as well. Only issue with that, though, would that it would be a different day of the week every year. At least having it on a Tuesday feels more consistent. Also, you'd need to change the Constitution to move it - I assume that wouldn't be an issue but who knows, people can't agree on anything.

But certainly yes to voter ID, yes to independent redistricting groups, and yes to eliminating vote by mail except as you indicate above.

President Trump still hasn't endorsed Winsome Earle-Sears

Virginia GOP governor candidate called Trump a ‘liability’ ahead of 2024
President Donald Trump has yet to endorse Earle-Sears, Virginia's current lieutenant governor. While slamming Spanberger during an event in Virginia for the U.S. Navy's 250th anniversary over the weekend, Trump did not mention Earle-Sears, a Marine Corps veteran, at all.

Earle-Sears and Trump's relationship turned tepid in 2022 after the lieutenant governor suggested it was time for the Republican Party to "move on" past him and declined to support his third White House bid.

"A true leader understands when they have become a liability. A true leader understands that it's time to step off the stage. And the voters have given us that very clear message," Earle-Sears said at the time.

Trump then undercut Earle-Sears on Truth Social, writing that he "never felt good" about her, and that she was a "phony."

lol he doesn’t hold grudges against all people who have criticized him in the past examples - 2015-2016 Rubio, Vance, etc, or 2023-2024 (Desantis), 2025 (Elon). But the common denominator with all of those is they‘ve kissed and made up. Don‘t know if Sears ever did.

Virginia Democrats are the next surprising entrant into the redistricting battle
“We are opening up the process reluctantly because of this aggressive midterm redistricting by Republicans in response to Trump across the country,” said one Virginia Democrat familiar with the plans.
...
The surprise effort would need to come together quickly, and it could face procedural and political hurdles. Virginia has a constitutionally mandated process that hands redistricting over to a bipartisan commission, and the decision to circumnavigate or eliminate that commission must ultimately go in front of voters.

To do so, both chambers of Virginia’s Legislature must pass the proposed amendment in sessions bookending an election. Democratic leaders in the state are relying on a special session called by GOP Gov. Glenn Youngkin in May 2024 that was left open to push through the measure for the first time, ahead of the state’s elections in less than two weeks. The Legislature would then need to pass the proposal again in a new session after the November elections.

Voters would then have to approve the change; nearly two-thirds of Virginians approved of the constitutional amendment creating the commission in 2020.
...
In California, voters in November will decide whether a new map backed by Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom will go into effect for 2026, which could net Democrats five seats. Other Democratic states that can redistrict, like Illinois and Maryland, have so far not jumped in despite growing pressure from within the party.
The madness continues ...

This is 2028, but since we don‘t have a 2028 Congressional & State elections thread yet, will put this here.
Scoop: Dems plot Fetterman ouster

Top Democrats in Pennsylvania are maneuvering to run against Sen. John Fetterman in a 2028 primary contest, threatening to tear the party apart in the biggest battleground state in the nation.

Why it matters: Democrats haven't flipped a GOP Senate seat since Fetterman did it in 2022. He's still popular with Pennsylvania voters, even as Democrats turn on him over his softened approach to President Trump.

Potential Democratic challengers are already bashing Fetterman — and each other — years ahead of schedule.
Some Democratic officials are openly contemplating running against Fetterman or keeping the door open to a Senate bid in the event he retires.

The big picture: Democrats who could run against Fetterman include Reps. Brendan Boyle and Chris Deluzio and former Rep. Conor Lamb, according to multiple political insiders in Pennsylvania…
https://www.axios.com/2025/10/16/john-f ... nnsylvania

Yes. Do it donks. Please primary Fetterman. Take a safe donk incumbent seat to tossup, maybe lean R after a long, nasty donk primary, in the most important swing state in the country, in a presidential election year too boot.

Ex-GOP governor urges party to oppose redistricting in Indiana: Don’t ‘cave’ to White House
“My home state of Indiana is on the national Republican target list for new lines, as part of the quest to ensure continued control of the House,” Daniels wrote in an op-ed for The Washington Post. “While the outcome sought is one I support, the tactic being employed to get there is not, and I hope earnestly that my state’s leaders will politely decline to participate.”
...
“’We’ll be punished by the administration if we don’t cooperate,’” Daniels wrote. “That sounds like the reaction to some puffed-up White House apparatchik’s mouthing off, but in any event it’s a bluff that a self-respecting state ought to call.

In Indiana, Republicans maintain a supermajority in the state. Thus, no “amount of line-drawing artistry” will turn the 1st Congressional District “into a Republican seat,” Daniels wrote.

“The attempt, which might not even work, would, I’m convinced, come at the expense of public disgust,” he continued. “Hoosiers, like most Americans, place a high value on fairness and react badly to its naked violation.”
...
Their duty is to the citizens and the future of our state, not to a national political organization or a temporary occupant of the White House,” he wrote in closing. “And doing the right thing, by the way, really would be its own reward.”
I found one of those adults that MAQA yahoos have been talking about. They're right, we need more of them and they need to be put in charge of the Republican Party.

It’s pretty bad when your policies are so bad you have to open up your border and allow 25 million illegals to stream into the country just so you’ll have a chance to win an election

And give them free healthcare with FREE visits to the emergency room that puts us further over the edge of the economic cliff

And then you stomp your feet and cause a government shut down because of your own failed policies and lack of putting any good ideas in play
