Capitalism? Come on, you'll have to do net math on that one so that you can include all the lives that have been saved with capitalism. Seems like our standard of living has increased by a pretty significant margin in the past 200 some years of full on capitalism, especially when you consider that capitalism then drives the other movements (environmental, safety, health, etc) that we wouldn't have it capitalism hadn't made people more concerned about that since we've been able to move away from subsistence living because of capitalism. Think of all the children that actually reach adulthood now, all the women that don't die in labor, etc. Hard to make an argument that life hasn't improved in the past 200 years of capitalism.

Whoa there hoss. You seem awfully defensive of capitalism. Dont worry, I’m ok with capitalism and have done well by it. It’s just better when it’s well regulated which ironically pushes it closer to democratic socialism.

It’s a pretty big assumption to contend that human advancement only occurred thanks to capitalism. Or even to assume that subsistence living or regenerative ag, or hunter gatherers were less happy or lead hollow and harsh lives. (See Graeber and Winslow’s The Dawn of Everything).

Even when it comes to advancements in medicine, there’s net math involved when consider everything else brought courtesy of capitalism from industrialization and pollution to the completely unhealthy American diet of high fats, red meat, fried foods, high sodium, high sugar, high carbs, additives and preservatives and convenience.

My point: yeah…capitalisms shit stinks too.

BDK has it wrong with religion, no doubt. Islam isn't monolithic either, there's the Islam practiced by the mullahs in Iran and other terroristic states, and then there's the Islam practiced by perfectly rational and peaceful folks in places like the UAE and other modern locales. Any religion can be misused to steer people towards violence and oppression, as history is replete with examples. Islam just has way too many of those examples right now in the modern world. It doesn't have to be like that, though.

Any religion can be misused to steer people towards violence and oppression, as history is replete with examples. Islam just has way too many of those examples right now in the modern world. It doesn't have to be like that, though.
