Innovation is great? It can be a strong product of competition and capitalism.

1). Guess what profit motive also does? It needlessly kills 100’s of people. It’s the primary cause of why most bankruptcies are medical.

2). Innovation also comes from non-profit entities like Universities and foundations. Universities are funded by government so it’s another case of socialism for corporations and the investor class and capitalism for everyone else.

3). Do you think all of the Doge de-funding and tariffs will have a positive effect on our status in the world scientific community?

Who get their funding from those big corporations and rich people who got that way through profit motive & competition..

Universities and foundations get funding from other sources then "those big corporations and rich people".

NASA and DARPA don't get their funding from "those big corporations and rich people" either.

Both help drive innovation, especially in healthcare where innovation can take years and a level of patience that many big corporations seem to lack.

I know that what we have now is broken and needs to be fixed/replaced and I don't think that what they have in Canada or Europe is the right answer for the US. Dropping the ACA without a viable replacement is a step backwards.
