I've worked pretty hard to get to where I am and I'm proud of what I've accomplished. Part of my career was spent at a Fortune 500 company where they were actively looking to promote minorities and women and I had to work harder and smarter to get noticed and to get ahead. I didn't have a problem with the company actively working to put minorities and women in positions where they could succeed. Years of discrimination had made management a bastion of white males and the company needed to shake that up because diversity (of ideas and backgrounds) is good for business. When I hit my glass ceiling I didn't b!tch and moan, I moved on and created new opportunities.

I also realize that I was fortunate to be raised in a family that valued education and where it was expected that I would get the grades necessary to be accepted into and succeed in college. A lot of people aren't that fortunate and without that foundation they'll likely never get the chance to succeed in corporate America or as entreprenuers. That is why I believe that access to a quality education for all is critical to the long-term success of this country.

I also am willing to pay more in taxes to help support this country so that it can create opportunities (not entitlements) for those less fortunate to improve their lot in life. The million dollar quesion is how much more in taxes should I or anyone else who is successful pay?

Your life is but a single example of what can happen, it may or may not be representative of what the majority of white males have faced in their lives.
Hey, don't bug me while I'm pretending to work hard over here...
Yeah.. 88 I get it.. (Shhhh... we're working)

Obama and his worshippers are creating their own worst hell and bringing everyone else down into it.

OMFG..!!!
Gee... Mr. Weenie McWhimperson... The whole - I built this country and now it hates me routine is beyond hysterical and old news (very old news)

I am white and 45
I've been handed everything in life - I've been given a free pass over and over again
Whenever I got in trouble I got another chance
Whenever I needed extra help it was there for me
Whenever I wanted to make a change there were dozens of easy opportunities

The system has been fabulously easy for me to navigate through - day by day - year after year - my life has been a reflection of a white man's dream come true...

And throughout my life I have been rewarded by people just like you - They award me for my success - my hard work - my perseverance... they see in me all that is wonderful about America and our great society and how all my fabulous attributes have created my success...

Bullsh!t...

You just keep thinking how hard it is and how victimized you are and how this country doesn't respect you enough... well I have news for you: You're a pussy in my book..!!!

This whole thing is a cake walk for the white male and the jig is up... we've been outed - but some of us can't let go of the "old script" and keep playing the deception game - well everybody is on to us (and Pat Buchanan) we've been caught - it was a nice run...

:coffee: ass you were gentlemen - I have to pretend I have "Hard Work" to get back to
Dude,take your medicine.

Lots of good points in you post, UNI, but keep your eye on the prize.

Unfortunately, very few will get the quality education you espouse as long as the NEA is in charge of education. The values necessary to encourage economic productivity and entrepreneurship are frequently devalued by teachers and politicians alike. Public policy and popular culture too often reward dysfunctional social behavior harmful to children.

IN THIS ENVIRONMENT, do you really believe higher taxes will achieve the goals to which we should aspire?

If you believe your own words, why not learn to teach English as a second language and volunteer to do so? Why not coach or referee youth sports teams, or better yet use your acquired entrepreneurial and corporate management skills and volunteer to serve as a board member of a youth activities organization? Why not sponsor science fair awards for both the gifted and the underprivileged? Why not participate in one of the many programs (e.g., junior achievement) that would bring your successful life experiences into the classroom? Why not become a teacher yourself?

Higher taxes, government programs, "community activism," hating America and demonizing white people are not the answer. They are the problem. Chizzeets and many of the other losers who espouse this kind of crap are fakes - some of them have a few screws loose, to boot. I doubt that one in ten of these nuts actually perform useful civic duties, as I am recommending for your consideration.

If everyone pitched in and performed a few of the civic activities I am suggesting, we could make more of a difference than all of the government programs, taxes and fraudulent "social justice" propaganda in the world.

However, without the personal commitment of people like you to civic duties in a free society based on the Constitution, all the programs in the world cannot make the difference you seek.

I agree that the education system is broken and needs to be fixed and that while we have large numbers of highly qualified and dedicated teachers the bureaucracy on all sides (government, administration and unions) is a barrier that needs to be overcome.

While I don't mind a graduated tax rate I do question what is fair and sensible. Jacking up the taxes on the wealthy isn't a good idea.

I do a number of things as a part of my job and on my own that contribute to the community. I have coached youth sports teams for the last 3 years. I run a foundation that provides scholarships to students. I have spent a considerable amount of time in the rougher parts of Chicago working with community groups and educational institutions to help give disadvantaged youths an opportunity to pursue higher paying jobs with real benefits.

I generally believe in smaller government but there are instances where government intervention is appropriate. National defense being the most basic but some regulation of business is a necessary evil otherwise we end up with monopolies, environmental problems, etc. as too many businesses would pursue a profit at all costs philosphy. Fortunately the need for unions as dropped considerably as smart businesses understand that their workforce can be a asset to be utilized intelligently and not a resource to be used up and discarded.

Community activism is not by itself a bad thing. This country has a long and successful history of community activism; what would you have called it when German, Italian, Irish, etc. immigrants came to this country and shopped at community stores, hired community contractors, etc.? People should be encouraged to work together to better themselves and their neighborhood(s). They just shouldn't do it at the expense of someone else.

As a white person, I don't feel demonized. Did I have fewer opportunities than a minority when I was working for the larger company? Yes, but I understood why and knew that I could always leave if I didn't like the opportunities I had. When I was on the south side of Chicago helping disadvantaged people there were 10 people telling me thanks for every 1 who was pissed at me because things didn't work out. All those 10 people wanted was a chance at something better, they understood that it was up to them to make something of it. And as a white person, I understand that I started out with a better foundation than most non-whites because of past discrimination. While minorities might have had more opportunities at that larger company than I did, whites had a better chance of getting the education required just to get their foot in the door.

Finally, Cleets is not a loser. I enjoy and generally agree with his posts. I would break liquid bread with him anytime.

Thank you for your thoughtful, thorough and measured response!

I share your expressed worldview, and most of your opinions. BUT I doubt that many lefties share or even understand your worldview, and that is a tragedy for us all.

Cleets, there are plenty of nuggets of truth in your posts, but a few meadow muffins as well. You do not always do a good job of connecting the dots and drawing reasonable conlclusions. However, I realize and hereby acknowledge that sometimes you are just throwing bombs and are not a true leftie.

This thread is about Obama and the lefties, NOT you. I do not claim that YOU demonize white people, but I sure as hell DO claim that Obama and the lefties have done so, for example in his initial response to the Cambridge Cop Caper and in his claim of racism amongst the opponents of Obamacare.

IF you are referring to me, I do not fear transparency at all. In fact, no one has been more open or transparent on these threads than me. I think actions speak louder than words, and do not recommend things that I have not done myself. This opens me up to ridicule from the losers who post only for effect, but it is worth it to get the kind of responses UNI88 contributed this morning.

Perhaps this could be said of all of us, but the conclusions you draw are not as obvious to others as they appear to be to yourself. I do not share them, but I do not begrudge you of your opinions.

How about both...
Transparency and a level playing field

BTW:
It sounds like the banking industry is back to it's old tricks again - where the leaders of money losing financial institutions are giving themselves huge bonuses - just 12 months after being exposed... Having politicians policing bankers is too hysterical to watch..!!! But I better keep my mouth shut, that's me hating America again... I mean after all it's one of our oldest traditions - you know - corporate leaders effectively stealing money from their employees

where's the justice - where's the humility - where's the country club..? I've got a tee time

This little economic down turn has brought to light just how level the playing field actually is...

I agree it is not just Obama or the media that is destroying the country, and that it started long before Obama.

Got me again! Thank you for allowing me to correct myself. :thumb:

I didn't claim that the troubles started only on inaguration day, as your original post satirically opined, but close enough.

Regardless of the problems before Obama, he deserves plenty of credit for the problems he has created and exacerbated all on his own!

...speaking of "created," does anyone else notice that no one in the administration claims to have "created or saved..." jobs anymore?
