Elon vs. Wake Forest predictions
My first post here...Wake and Elon, prediction?
I say 28-17 Elon. D creates turnovers, and Hudgins/Riddle have a solid day.

Re: Elon vs. Wake Forest predictions
This could be a good one.
I'll go with 24-21 Elon.
Wake has fought back in its two games this year, even if they haven't come out on top.

Re: Elon vs. Wake Forest predictions
Elon will have to be able to run to beat Wake, as it will be hard for them to throw 65 times and win. I think they can put up points, but I don't see them pulling it out. It'll be close, I'd say 24-17 Wake.

Pulling for Elon but Wake will over power the Pheonix.

Wow, this game wasn't even close. I listened to the 2nd and 3rd quarters while on the road from my mother's birthday dinner, Wake handled Elon. The SoCon is BAAAAAAD this season. It could be a 1 bid league.

I was at the game. It wasn't as bad as the score indicates, but it was bad enough. Elon had chances to score several times in the first half and ended up with dropped balls. The SoCon is fine, App. is just down.BeauFoster wrote:Wow, this game wasn't even close. I listened to the 2nd and 3rd quarters while on the road from my mother's birthday dinner, Wake handled Elon. Wake Forest is a good football team. This is not a chump team. Why do you think that Jim Grobe's name comes up every year for vacant coaching jobs.
They don't play freshmen. Every freshman redshirts. They are a mature team. It will be hard for any FCS team to beat them.

Re: Elon vs. Wake Forest predictions
I don't understand what it is about Elon this year that has had everyone predicting a win over Wake Forest. FBS teams that typically lose to FCS teams have names like Ball State or Tulsa. Wake was not a team ripe for upset. Beating Davidson and PC does not a giant-slayer make.
Occasionally, a really good FCS team can catch a decent FBS team napping, but it is a very rare occurrence. (See: ASU-Michigan 2007, El Cid-Arkansas 1992)
I even saw an Elon fan on AGS claiming that because of the loss to WF, Elon should drop out of the FCS Top 25. That is ridiculous. Take your check and forget about it. Losing to Wake will not affect your FCS ranking one bit, and in the end a FCS team can have a very successful season without beating its FBS opponents.

I hope you're right about the ranking. The way I look at it, If App can lose to McNeese (not a bad team, but an FBS like Wake Forest) be 0-2, and stay in the top 10, Elon shouldn't drop far if at all.CID1990 wrote:I don't understand what it is about Elon this year that has had everyone predicting a win over Wake Forest. Re: Elon vs. Wake Forest predictions
I don't think Elon should drop out of the top 25 because they lost to Wake, but I certainly expected them to be able to move the ball a little more than they did. I've seen Wake play this year (against Baylor, in person) and they aren't exceptionally good. They might be decent, but they are nothing like they have been in the past few seasons, unless Grobe was seriously sandbagging (which he wasn't).
As I say, I was listening to the Wake call on the radio, but it sounded like the Elon o-line wasn't having a great amount of luck against the Wake d-line. Riddle was hurried on a lot of throws. I expected more out of a group that started as many games together last season as they did.

Re: Elon vs. Wake Forest predictions
I dunno about other poll voters - but I always had a rule that "FBS games don't count"
Like Cid said - take your check and move on - you get rewarded for a win, are expected to lose... the inverse is true of D-II games - you win, and nobody cares, you lose... goodbye top 25
