Racist Republican Assholes

Post by D1B »

September 17, 2009 - Former President Jimmy Carter has condemned Representative Joe Wilson’s reprehensible “You lie!” outburst during President’s Obama’s recent Congressional address as “based on racism.” Such animosity, Carter said, is based on “the fact that [Obama] is a Black man and... the belief among many White people that African-Americans are not qualified to lead the country.” Terming Wilson’s comment “dastardly,” Carter described it as an “aftershock of racist views that have permeated American politics for decades.”

Racial animosity toward Obama has become increasingly vitriolic and public since his Inauguration, especially among anti-immigrant protesters (CSUBUCDAD and AZgrizfan) and anti-government activists (Citdog and any fuck who went to Shitadel) who compare him to Hitler (Catamount Man, Alphajizz) and deny his U.S. citizenship. In addition, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, gun sales (Alphajizz) and the anti-government white supremacist militia movement (Citdog, Alphajizz and Wildcunt) are surging across the country, fueled by fears of a Black man in the White House, the changing demographics of the country and rumors of gun confiscation promoted by cable TV and radio hosts who ferment and legitimize anti-government propaganda.
Hope you are proud - AZGrizfan, CSUFUCDUD, Clenz, Citdog, Naieve, WildCunt, Col Hogan, Seattle Griz, Catamountman - you racist cocksuckers. SMFH

Yes...because nobody knows a racist better......than another racist...

Readers should refer to Stephen Hayward's The Real Jimmy Carter if they want a taste of the out-and-out racism that Carter employed in order to defeat moderate former Gov. Carl Sanders for the Democratic nomination that year. As Hayward's book points out:

-Carter's top campaign staffers were spotted distributing grainy photographs of Sanders arm-in-arm celebrating with two black men. Sanders was a part-owner of the Atlanta Hawks, and in the photograph he was celebrating a victory with two players who were pouring champagne over his head. Carter's leaflet was intended to depress Sanders's white vote.
-"The Carter campaign also produced a leaflet noting that Sanders had paid tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr."
-Carter criticized Sanders, a former governor, for preventing Alabama Gov. and notorious segregationist George Wallace from speaking on Georgia state property. "I don't think it was right for Governor Sanders to try to please a group of ultra-liberals, particularly those in Washington, when it means stifling communication with another state," said Carter.
-"'I have no trouble pitching for Wallace votes and black votes at the same time,' Carter told a reporter. Carter also said to another reporter, 'I can win this election without a single black vote.'"
-Upon receiving the endorsement of former Democratic Gov. Lester Maddox, Carter responded by praising the life-long segregationist: "He has brought a standard of forthright expression and personal honesty to the governor's office, and I hope to live up to his standard." Maddox had not only refused to serve blacks in the restaurant he once owned, but he had also greeted civil rights protestors with a gun, and made sticks available to his white customers with which to intimidate them.
-"The campaign paid for radio ads for a fringe black candidate, C.B. King, in an effort to siphon black votes away from Sanders."
-"Then there was the radio commercial in which Carter said he would never be the tool of any 'block' vote, slurring over the word 'block' so that it could be mistaken for 'black.'
Carter won the Democratic nomination and the governorship -- unsurprisingly, with almost no black support.

Col., you know I love you like a play cousin, but there is no way anyone can be honest and say some, if not quite a bit, of the issues people are having with Pres. Obama are because of race. That is not to say that everyone is a racist or all critics of the President are racist, but this is still America, and our history was not erased on Nov. 4, nor were racists magically healed like Benny Hinn just touched them on the forehead.

While I have no doubt that the President's race is an issue for some people, I agree completely (I don't believe I'm saying this) with President Clinton that people who oppose the Obama health care plan would oppose it if he was white...

It is a horrible plan, bordering on socialism, definately income redistribution...and I don't care who the prez is, I'll speak out against it...

I will agree to that statement with one amendment (isn't parliamentary procedure fun? )- some people who oppse the health plan would oppose it if he were white. A racist who opposes Pres. Obama is going to oppose anything he does. If Pres. Obama takes a crap, a racist will have something negative to say like "I can't believe Pres. Obama wasted the taxpayers money on Charmin when he could have used newspaper." A racist isn't going to oppose Pres. Obama and then support the health plan. The health plan is just something else for the racist to pile on.

A relevant commentary from Sunday's Chicago Tribune

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/colu ... 316.column
Race and opposition to Obama
A new president, pursuing policies well within the political mainstream, evokes weirdly angry and intense denunciations from opponents -- a reaction hard to explain in terms of anything he has actually done. Does that suggest, as Jimmy Carter insists, that their true motivation lies in racism?

No, it doesn't, because I'm not talking about Barack Obama. I'm talking about George W. Bush and Bill Clinton -- both of whom, from the day they took office, managed to convince a minority of Americans that they were not just wrong but illegitimate, dangerous and thoroughly evil. Obama's troubles are not exactly unprecedented.
...
What Obama may not have recognized before he arrived in the White House is that hating presidents is an irrepressible American tradition. The haters hung George Washington in effigy. They called Abraham Lincoln a dictator. They said Franklin Roosevelt was a Bolshevik.
...
Looking back, all these claims seem bizarre and unwarranted. But that didn't count for much at the time. The furious denunciations against Obama are simply the latest installment in a custom that seems to have gotten more extreme as methods of instant communication have spread.

So you don't need to turn to race to explain the virulent animosity against Obama. What all the presidents who previously endured irresponsible slander had in common, after all, is that they were white.
...
The context also matters a lot. Obama took office during a recession that was the scariest economic crisis in decades -- which under his predecessor had induced some of the most drastic and expansive government initiatives in our history. He took over in the middle of two wars. And he represented a shift on cultural issues like gay rights and affirmative action.

He is president, in short, at a highly consequential moment. And consequential moments inflame the political climate, because so much is at stake.

Does that mean the ferocious criticism has nothing to do with race? Of course not. Obama may be a "post-racial" figure, but there is still a significant slice of the electorate that has never gotten past his skin color.

For anyone who regards blacks as irredeemably alien or inferior, Obama is a nightmare, not just because he is black but because he so thoroughly confounds racist stereotypes.

But that's a minor factor, not a decisive one. It is Obama's party and policies that are the real source of the opposition. If you think otherwise, consider how calmly and congenially the right would have responded if a different Democrat had been inaugurated on Jan. 20: Al Gore.
I don't doubt that some of those that are protesting Obama's policies are racists but to paint everyone who disagrees with his programs as a racist is using fear and intimidation rather than facts and reason to win the argument. And it is no different than GWB's administration trying paint everyone who disagreed with their programs as unpatriotic.

The problem is the tone... those health care town halls (choreographed wonderfully for anyone deluded enough to think that was some sort of "spontaneous grassroots uprising") sounded FAR too much like the darkest of those McCain rallies back in September and October... that's not a good sign.

There are those with legitimate philosophical differences with the President... however - the whole "he's ruined our country" canard makes no sense from a pure policy point of view, as POTUS has yet to do anything all that radically different - which is why "he ruined our country" sounds to a lot of ears like "now the help will think it's equal"

Quite frankly, those with legitimate ideological differences may exist, but they are drowned out by a cacophony of foaming-at-the-mouth fanatics, some motivated by racial fears, some motivated by the fear of being out of power (which many conks believe they are entitled to... speaking of "entitlement mentalities"). Point being - while a lot of people will swear up and down "it's not racial" such arguments are harder to sustain when a guy like Joe Wilson of South Carolina (pretty much the jackpot of "angry white man" stereotype) pops off.

Personally - I think most conservatives in this country (mainstream ones, right of center, but not extreme) are more pissed off that a DEMOCRAT is in power than that a black man is... it's just... well... they aren't the ones screaming and getting on tv.
