Big Sky Predictions 9-26

Post by JALMOND »

Here I am just motoring along, happy with my perfect 21-0 record so far, and then a week like this comes about. Home field means a lot in college athletics, more so than in professional sports. So this week in Big Sky play, one could argue that all of the favorites are playing on the road. This unusual happening could mean that there will be a likely upset somewhere. So I am putting my perfect record on the line. Here are this week's Big Sky predictions. All all my opinion and all are open for discussion.

EWU @ Sac State---The Eagles head down to Sacramento to face the Hornets, a team that had two weeks to prepare for their home opener. The Eagles, meanwhile, were struggling to score against Northern Colorado. The Eagles defense, though, looked like giant killers. Two weeks to prepare and no doubt the Hornets used both weeks. Unfortunately, they may have needed three...EWU 20, Sac State 16.

Central Washington @ ISU---The Bengals finally got through their murderous three game road streak and come home to face DII Central Washington. Even though they are the Bengals, it is difficult to imagine most teams doing better than they did on their road trip. The Bengals are not getting any respect and would like to start the home slate with a win. Give them one...ISU 26, Central Washington 13.

UM @ NAU---The Grizzlies got a wake up call last week against Portland State and responded tremendously. The Jacks offense put away a pesky Southern Utah team that kept coming until the end. Can the Jacks finally get a win against the Grizzlies? Maybe, but the Griz will keep coming and coming until...UM 35, NAU 31.

MSU @ UNC---The Bobcats have been a shaky team so far. Shaky on offense and shaky on the usually solid defense. The Bears defense held the potent Eastern Washington offense as best as they could, yet the offense could not get anything going. If the Bears defense can do that against the Eagles, they most likely can do the same against the Bobcats. But they still need to find the offense...MSU 18, UNC 16.

WSU @ PSU---The Vikings headed to Missoula last week and stayed with the Grizzlies for a quarter. The Wildcats welcomed the lowly Bengals and let them stay around through the first quarter. This time, the Wildcats go on the road and the Vikings are at home. Last time the Wildcats were in Portland, they won 73-68. This time a little more reasonable...WSU 45, PSU 35.

I would have the victors being EWU, CWU, UM, UNC, WSU.

I think ISU will have a letdown after their early rivalry game and CWU is undefeated and a more than solid DII team, even without Reilly. MSU-UNC could go either way but with the down week and traveling, I'll take UNC. Both UM-NAU and WSU-PSU could be intriguing to see if they don't end up in total blowouts.

Unless you know something I don't about NAU (which is possible), there's now way in HELL they're putting up 31 on us, even at home.

EWU @ Sac State---EWU is a tough team this year and Sac State has lost some talent from a year ago. EWU 24, Sac State 17.

Central Washington @ ISU---ISU seems to have improved a bit on last year, but still has a long way to go. CW is a strong Div 2 school and will take the W. ISU 13, Central Washington 14.

UM @ NAU---NAU played a good game against Arizona, but then squeeked by a good SU team at home. UM is a patience team that waits for their opponent to make a mistake or two and then pounces. If NAU can play mistake free or near mistake free then NAU wins, but I see UM causing NAU to make a few to many mistakes. UM 28, NAU 24.

MSU @ UNC---MSU has struggled in its first two games. UNC is an improving team and home field advantage coupled with MSU's struggles gives UNC the W. MSU 17, UNC 28.

WSU @ PSU---BBQ U has been playing well this year, they had oppurtunities to beat two FBS schools this year and took care of ISU last week. PSU has played ok in its first 3 games, but has not shown enough to beat BBQ WSU 38, PSU 24.

My sentiments exactly, Junior. If PSU can't score 31, ain't no WAY NAU is going to score 31. Particularly with their injury bug going around. :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

I predict 34-13.

To be honest I had 23-10, but since the cubs are having such a hissy fit about Dane Fletchers remark about 'Go Fish' I'll give the Cats another TD. Seeing how powerful SUU is so far I wouldn't get too fucking mouthy.

Can I have some of what you're smokin'? Bobkitten fans have nothing to talk shit about after that Dixie State embarrassment. Shut UNC out or put up more than 23 points (and not lose), THEN I might give a tiny bit of credence to MSU's lackluster shit-show.

How is it that outside of Venus, the biggest pro-Eagle spreads are coming from UNC fans? Heck, we even had a pro-Sac vote from a Griz fan. What gives?

LOL.

Correct Pick
Incorrect Pick
Actual Score
(-123) = Difference between predicted and actual point spread
APSE = Average Point Spread Error
_________________________________________________

EWU 28 vs. Sac State 17
EWU 56 vs. Sac State 30 (-15)

CWU 24 vs. ISU 21
CWU 33 vs. ISU 22 (-8)

UM 31 vs. NAU 24
UM 41 vs. NAU 34 (-0)

MSU 17 vs. UNC 20
MSU 25 vs. UNC 7 (-21)

WSU 38 vs. PSU 27
WSU 36 vs. PSU 29 (-4)
_________________________________________________

This week: 4-1
Last week: 4-0
Overall: 24-2
APSE this week: 9.6 pts
APSE last week: 9.8 pts
APSE overall: 11.2 pts

Another great week of Big Sky football with some crazy, nail-biting games! PSU and NAU almost knocked off Weber and Montana, MSU turned up their play after a bye week, and EWU's offense exploded for 56 points, in large part due to turnovers and 190 yards rushing by Taiwan Jones (15 carries, 4 TDs  ). UNC has me lookin' like a fool, as they're responsible for my only two wrong picks.

Home team goes 0-5 this week. As a result I go 4-1 and missed my so-called upset (ISU over Central Washington). I end September 25-1, though. Given how it could have been, I'll take it. :thumb:

How sad is it that a lot of people even predicted the ISU-CWU outcome and nobody is really surprised that ISU lost to a D-II team (albeit a talented one) by double digits at home?
