Global Nuclear Disarmament

Post by Pwns »

I posted this in the AGSPW a while back and didn't really get much of a discussion going, so now I am going to try and see if anyone has good insight on the issue over here. IMO this whole disarmament thing is really not being considered carefully enough. You could argue that nuclear weapons have been the biggest boon to world peace in history. Here's a good read from a recent Newsweek.

Whether it's been a "boon" or not is highly debatable, but it's irrelevant. You can't put that toothpaste back in the tube...they are out there, they will be out there tomorrow, and they'll be out there 100 years from now. There will never be "global disarmament". :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

Trying to attain global nuclear disarmament is like trying to win a war on drugs. Ain't gonna happen. :coffee: :coffee:

Republican presidential hopeful John McCain on Sunday said the U.S. should step up its war on drugs as part of efforts to secure the country's borders.

He said that's because Americans are to blame for "creating the demand" for illegal drugs that come into the country and give too much power to drug cartels that terrorize border areas.

"We are creating the demand. We are creating the demand for these drugs coming across our border, which maybe means that we should go back more trying to make some progress and in telling Americans, particularly young Americans, that the use of drugs is a terrible thing for them to do," he said.

Although what he is saying is true and probably needed, is it feasible?

Even if you legalize minor drugs, illegal drug "trafficking" will still exist in the US.

He's absolutely right. Americans ARE to blame. But you can't protect people from themselves.

I realize that. There are many things John McCain and I disagree on. And I STILL think he'd have been a better choice than our current president.

Nope. The science is too well known and understood now. Oh, they may be able to disarm the missile delivery systems, but the bombs themselves will be with us for perpetuity.

Well, now, there are three inconvenient catches. The UK, and especially Russia and China do not want to do it.

Here's how do do it:

1. Decriminalize and TAX marijuana, and
2. Execute other drug offenders.

the stockpiling of nuclear arms, at least between the US and USSR back in the day, was nothing more than a "whose cock is bigger" contest. Now, with Iran doing their part to obtain them.......eh.......I fear a nation such as they, mired in theocracy, are more apt to actually use them to obtain what they consider their God's will, etc, blah, blah, blah.

People like that are scary. Of course, it will only lead to their demise but in their warped minds, that is the ultimate victory. WOW! Just my take.
