No way a U.S. city hosts the Olympics in 2020. They'll be rotated out of the Americas. The North/South America voting block is small compared to the others and, from what I've read, was a major reason Chicago got so fucked over yesterday. I don't see that changing.
What I'd like to see is the USOC and NBC begin to play hardball with IOC. The television contract from NBC alone practically subsidizes the olympic movement.

exactly - that, combined with the fact that in 2020 - it will be 24 years without the summer games... i believe the longest stretch ever - when that happens, the tv ratings fall... the contract is worth less... the olympics lose money...
if south africa does a good job with the world cup next year - look for them to get a shot at 2020...

Yup, let's face it. The U.S. pretty much bankrolls everything anymore. I have no clue when NBC's contract is up? If I was in charge of the network I'd make it known that the money offered for the next go will be significantly reduced unless the United States a gets a fair shake and a chance to host again.

The problem with that is ESPN would jump in and outbid them. NBC has to be careful how the proceed, because it wont just be them talking to the IOC.

Exactly and thats why Boston gets their chance to bid. The US knows its a weak choice and a good one to waste on 2020.
If Chicago can;t get it theres no way Boston can. And I'll eat that crow.

Hey, didn't you listen to Baldy? It was all Obama's fault!
I think it's a great idea and that the city could handle it. But as long as Mumbles Mennino is Mayor forget it. I remember a few years ago he told the Olympic committee to not even consider Boston. He's a douchebag.
If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.
