I watched "American Caeser" the aptly titled documentary on the guy... I'm aware of his time in Japan... and while it wasn't perfect... he was the George Marshall of the Pacific theater... and Japan is a strong ally to this day as a result.

The people who replaced him in Japan, too, did all the foundation work needed to get thme back on their feet.
